I’m A Celebrity team to take over Daybreak?
By Eleanor Young on Wednesday 27 October 2010
Daybreak has barely left the headlines in recent weeks, with audiences switching off the revamped breakfast show in their thousands. Now bosses are considering dramatic measures, and could bring in the team behind I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! according to reports.
With viewing figures at an all time low – reaching just 580,000 earlier this week – it’s thought emergency talks are going on behind the scenes, with some suggesting a completely new production team is the only way to save the show.
Current producers claimed success back in August, when Daybreak launched to an acceptable 1million viewers, all tuning in to see the new format.
But since then, the show has been hemorrhaging fans, and it seems they could soon find themselves being replaced.
It’s thought execs are keen on bringing in the successful team behind behind I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! to work their magic on the show in an effort to halt the decline in viewing figures.
‘Things are going from bad to worse on Daybreak,’ one production ITV insider told the Sun.
‘We went for revolution rather than evolution when we axed GMTV, but now it's us who are against the wall.’

Following complaints the set was too 'cold' and 'modern', set teams have even shipped in potted plants, coffee cups and even the daily papers to help make the sofa look more appealing.

Viewers have complained about everything from the set, to the presenters and even the guests since the launch, but what are YOUR thoughts on the show? How bosses could improve ratings? Let us know in the comments box below.

Used to really enjoy GMTV, but since Daybreak has taken over I have switched to the other side. Something drastic has to be done to get me back to this channel. The only good thing about day break is Kate GarrawayENIT

I hate Daybreak, there is nothing I like about it, I watched GMTV for years and loved it, but now the presenters think they are comics and above everyone. Bring back GMTV.
Comment by DIANE on October 27 13:25
Really used to enjoy GMTV dont know what they decided to axe a well loved format that worked. GMTV used to feel warm and welcoming and you felt like you were listening to your friends talking. Daybreak, feels cold and distant and they are trying to hard.
Bring back GMTV and all the much loved presenters we all used to love tuning into each morning.
Comment by NHB on October 27 13:33
I used to watch GMTV but now only watch Lorraine, she has kept the same, by being bubbly interesting and quite amusing. Bring Back Fiona Phillips she was always a great person that was always in touch with the public and had genuine feelings for people in difficult circumstances. Well Done Fiona Please come back to GMTV or have a programme for Fiona which Im sure everyone will watch.

Should axe the whole show its utter rubbish. I watched GMTV for years and the presenters were all brilliant - cannot stand these pair
Comment by Maz on October 27 14:17
HATE Daybreak, DETEST Kate Garraway (that lisp is so annoying and she's very patronising)and I can't stand the new presenters.
WHAT were you thinking of ITV?? I used to watch GMTV - now it's BBC all the way!
Comment by Gail on October 27 14:37
I didn't think Daybreak would work, and it doesn't. The presenters are rubbish, the set odd and just the general feel is not enticing. I guess what I'm trying to say is it's not GMTV!!!
Comment by Tracey Archer on October 27 14:59
HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT, bring back GMTV, made me smile in the mornings, GMTV seemed so in touch with everyone, all DAYBREAK seems to want to do is try to make themselves look good and stuff everyone else.
Comment by Yvette Stewart on October 27 16:31
Its a question of balance GMTV got it just right with the presenters, ask a 100 viewers male/female who they would rather listen to in the morning Ben Shepard/Penny Smith or AC/CB and the answer would become clear.Theres not to much wrong with AC/CB its just the wrong time of the day to watch/listen to them.
Comment by pj on October 27 17:03
I love Kate Garraway, she's definitely a "Cougar" and I mean that in a nice way. She's looking more...mmmmm sexy (please don't change that). For us mum's out there we feel there's hope to look like a "yummy mummy". I love Lorraine...thank goodness they never axed her. The set is a little clinical for first thing in the morning. Why have they got 2 clocks? One on screen and one in the studio. What a waste of money. I also wish the news presenter would stop wearing coloured contacts. Her pupils do not dilate...very off putting. Sad to say I watch the BBC now (Imagine I used to find the BBC boring!) I switch back to watch Lorraine. Please bring back the warmth and interest of GMTV.

Adrian Chiles just has no talent and I cannot bear to listen to him. Breakfast is much more soothing and friendly early on in the morning, which surely is what one wants to hear. How do the producers justify the vast salaries paid when the results are so poor and plain to see? Surely there is talent elsewhere, yet to be given their first break? Perhaps now is an opportune time to give them the opportunity to shine before viewing figures become so low that they will never reach an acceptable level again.
Comment by robert burrell on October 27 20:29
Just remove Adrian and Christine. Bring back Penny, Emma and Andrew.
Comment by andrew on October 27 20:55
adrian v.good christine a bit weak but overall a good show. yes different from a popular programme that daybreak took over from, but good and a solid presentation. there has to be a good reason why they were brought in and taken from bbc. so perhaps should be given more of a chance.
Comment by Sheila Murphy-Sugrue on October 27 22:07
Would always tune in for GMTV when Fiona was there...then it became all about the 'competitions' they must have plugged it every 15-20 minutes just before they were axed. Like many others still tune into Lorraine even record it when Mark (fashion) or the news from Ross in LA comes in, if I'm working early
Didn't they ever hear 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it?' If they had moved with the times (as Lorraine has, stopped trying to do too much and stopped showing 'details' of the phone in it would have remained a favourite. Only good thing is I get into the shower earlier now in the morning! New format and presenters are not morning material Bring back Penny Smith and her wicked sense of humour - a little more 'less contrived' bantering would go down well
Comment by Karen FB on October 27 23:46
I thought it was just me......loved GMTV, interesting, relevant and still dont know why it was taken off our screens...to be replaced with!!!!?!!??!?!?!Have changed to BBC1 as instead of waking up to DAYBREAK it was just lulling me back to sleep! Why would anyone want to change GMTV if it had gr8 viewing numbers...DONT FIX IT IF ITS NOT BROKE!!!!
Comment by KEL on October 28 00:07
Bring back the gorgeous Emma Crosby. She would be great with Dan Lobb as the main presenters. Cant stand Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley.
Comment by Rob on October 28 00:27
Why was GMTV axed? Everyone clearly loved watching it and it has been part of the family home for years!
Bring back GMTV and your problems will be solved!
Comment by Jazza on October 28 13:06
Pure and simple. Replace their smug, conceited and totally detestable faces with two new, warm, real people and you will see the viewing rise again. Until then, not a chance.
Comment by Angelica on October 28 17:05
Not a fan of Daybreak. Tried watching but the presenters are a real turn off. Much prefer Breakfast and Lorraine
Comment by Humie Webbe on October 28 20:19
get rid of the idiots presenting the show and bring back our gmtv presenters
Comment by gemma on October 30 20:04
always watched MTV but now its just embarrassing to see giles and bleakley get rid of them Kate is the only redeeming feature, i've switched to BBC and won't be going back anytime soon while it continues in its present format.
Comment by Chris on October 30 23:57
Quite simply bring GMTV back, there was nothing wrong with it,loved the presenters on there much more.
Comment by RICH on October 31 11:18
Nothing wrong with the set or the format! It's just the presenters! bring back Ben, Penny and Richard Arnald! At least they had presenting skills and personality! Now I'am a BBC Breakfast fan!
Comment by Lisa on October 31 15:09
Why do tv programme controllers seem to think that radical change is necessary in cases like these. GMTV was a good formula with a loyal viewing audience. Why not adapt the existing show. The new studio is stark and cold, the 2 much heralded ex One Show presenters unendearing to say the least. Adrian Chiles scowls the whole time and seems to look down his nose as if there is a bad smell beneath, and Christine Bleakley tries hard but comes over cold and insincere.
Message to Peter Fincham, much praised guru from the BBC. Accept the fact that you are wrong and bow out. For once, listen to the viewers, after all we are paying everyone's salaries

havent you heard the saying, if it aint broken then dont fix it.
Comment by angie on November 02 20:58
Day Break could be vastly improved by axing it altogether and brining back GMTV. Along with Fiona Phillips, Kate Garroway, Andrew Castle, Ben Shepard, Eamon Holmes, John Stapleton and News Reader Penny Smith, and weather Girl Claire Nazir. These people have more personallity in their little fingers than the two main daybreak crew. GMTV was a format which to my mind was not broken, so why did someone have the not so bright idea of bringing those awful presenters from the one show. I never watched that because they are so wooden so I am not prepared to accept them in what was my favourite news programme. BRING BACK GMTV WITH ITS OLD PRESENTERS.....!
Comment by Chris Owen on November 03 09:40
6.30 am start is too early. 7.30 am will increase the audience. You can try it out for a short period and check the viewing figures.
Comment by Albert Moses on November 23 17:33
what was wrong with gmtv bring back emma andrew and ben and penny it may work it did before we wnat GMTV back if its not broken dont mend it the only thing good about day break is kate garraway for goodness sake dont axe her WE WANT GMTV BACK WITH THE OLD PRESENTERS
Comment by vaughan on November 24 20:47
