FIRST PICS! Hayden Panettiere as Amanda Knox
By Eleanor Young on Tuesday 26 October 2010
Just last month it was announced Heroes star Hayden Panettiere had landed the role as convicted murderer Amanda Knox in a made for TV movie, to hit the US next year. Now the first pictures of the star on set have emerged, and she bears a striking resemblance to the American student.

Hayden beat off stiff competition for a part in The Amanda Knox Story, signing on the dotted line with America’s Lifetime network.
She admitted she was ‘floored’ and ‘flattered’ when bosses first offered her the role, and felt ‘privileged’ to be part of such an important story.
'I'm so privileged to play the role. It's a really great story and a very controversial one,’ she said in a recent interview. 'I'm looking forward to it. I'm really excited about it. It's going to be a really tough project to do but it will be good.'
Now she’s already been spotted on set in Rome, and, with a flowing auburn wig, looks chillingly like her subject.

Amanda was jailed for 26 years in 2009, for the drug-fuelled sex murder of British student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy.
The sentence was given alongside her Italian former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, 25, who was jailed for 25 years.
And network bosses say the true story about an ‘all-American’ girl at the centre of a murder involving sex and drugs,’ is perfect movie material.

But Hayden has told how she was banned from meeting Amanda by prison officials when she asked if she could meet her after being given the role.
'I wish. I know the Italian government is being pretty protective of her, her lawyers are being protective of her, which is pretty understandable,’ she told the BBC’s Newsbeat.
'It's something I would like to do (meet her) but I'd be more surprised if it happened than if it didn't.'

Hold on, a film is being made less then a year since the trial and during a time where Amanda Knox is still trying to prove her innocence? Does anyone else think this is way too soon and in really bad taste? How must the parents of Meredith Kercher be feeling about this? Just awful.
Comment by Suze on October 26 12:25
I totally agree with Suze. I think it's absolutely ridiculous that this film is going ahead so soon after the trial. I feel for the Kercher family who will be subjected to the endless media attention the film will attract, followed by the promotional tour, this is surely a glamorised reminder of a tragedy that should be remembered respectfully.
Comment by Em on October 26 12:56
I think this is terrible that hayden is saying what a great opportunity this is! someone has been murdered this is not great, it is not a great film opportunity it is a tragic disturbing event which should be left alone. The family of the victim do not need to be reminded so shortly after this has happened in a hollywood film. Maybe in 20 years time. Amanda Knox will revel from this film being made I mean how many people dream about a hollywood film and actress doing a film about you. We have to murder people now do we to get famous! ridiculous!

Totally agree with you ladies. I cannot believe this is going to be made into a film. The Kercher family have suffered enough and I am shocked that Hayden was "floored and flattered" and the fact that she feels that she is "privileged to play the role. It's a really great story and a very controversial one".
A great story?? It's real life and one that certainly should not be glamorised.
Comment by Jackie on October 26 13:53
it is a great story...I mean, it's sad that young and beautiful got killed, but at the same time it's amazing how there's not enough evidence and this girl was convicted...
Comment by loopa on October 26 15:12
Not enough evidence? BS. There was plenty of evidence, the least being accusing an innocent man. Hayden, you certainly display the class of Amanda Knox by your insensitive and offensive comments towards the real victim and her family. Frankly, Hayden, you suck.
Comment by Dave Alexander on October 26 16:37
Loopa,
Amanda Knox voluntarily admitted that she was involved in Meredith's murder.
Innocent people don't give multiple conflicting alibis and lie repeatedly to the police.
The DNA didn't miraculously deposit itself in the most incriminating of places.
An abundant amount of Raffaele Sollecito's DNA was found on a small piece of Meredith's underwear.
Amanda Knox's DNA was found on the handle of the double DNA knife and a number of independent forensic experts - Dr. Patrizia Stefanoni, Dr. Renato Biondo and Professor Francesca Torricelli - categorically stated that Meredith’s DNA was on the blade.
There were five instances of Knox's DNA mixed with Meredith's blood in three different locations in the cottage.
Sollecito left a visible bloody footprint on the blue bathmat in the bathroom.
Knox's and Sollecito's bare bloody footprints were revealed by luminol in the hallway. Knox’s DNA and Meredith’s DNA was found mixed together in one of the bloody footprints.
Knox tracked Meredith's blood into the bathroom, Fiomena's room and her own room.
It's not a coincidence that the three people - Knox, Sollecito and Guede - who kept telling the police a pack of lies are all implicated by the DNA and forensic evidence.
Comment by Harry on October 26 17:12
To loopa,
There was PLENTY of evidence to convict her.
Try reading up on the case and you will learn something.
Why make unfounded ignorant comments when it's obvious you haven't studied this subject.
Comment by S Haley on October 26 17:21
This is disgraceful so all you have to do now to become famous and have a film made about you is kill someone.
First we make films that teach how to be depraved and kill and now we glorify what they do with a film.
Just what sort of example is this setting the young of today!
Become famous go out and kill, wonderful!
Comment by swiss on October 26 17:34
I'm staying well away from the cinema when this is out - imagine the sick and twisted people in that audience....
Comment by Elizabeth on October 26 23:41
Many of us are 100 percent sure that Amanda and Raffaele are innocent and the real victims of a witch hunt. We have read books, studied the reports and the evidence. We started out with faith in the Italian judicial system and have concluded now that their system - in this case - has failed. The latest slander suit is utterly pathetic.
We hope this movie tells the truth.
Comment by Guardian on October 27 07:23
Great story!?!
By her own written and spoken word Amanda Knox was present as her room mate Meredith Kercher was brutally murdered. The physical evidence supports the confessions. Then, Amanda accused an innocent man, Patrick Lumumba, of the crimes she committed.
Meredith Kercher was the victim of Amanda Knox. "Great story" it is NOT.
Comment by Susan on October 27 07:27
Despite there being a mountain of evidence against the trio who committed this vile murder, there are still those who have been duped by the massive P.R. campaign that continues to insinuate that Ms. Knox was unfairly convicted.
In the mean time, the family of the real victim in this case have to endure the glamorisation of this killer.
Comment by John Hall on October 27 08:16
Please do not fall for the garbage the likes of Dave Alexander, Harry (Rag, S. Haley etc post. READ up on the case and make your OWN mind up. Despite the trashy comments and ill-informed LIES, there reamins the TRUTH. It will all come out one day - let's hope the appeals are successful and then the lies propagated by the 'Guilters' can be shown for what they are. Here are some decent sites and blogs for those searching for the TRUTH about this travesty.

Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito are totally innocent of this crime. This crime was committed by a thug from the Ivory Coast named Rudy Guede. There is a mountain of evidence against him and not a shred of evidence against Amanda and Raffaele.
Rudy Guede's DNA was inside the sexual areas of the victim. Amanda, Raffaele, and Meredith had seen him around but didn't know him. There was no cell phone or internet contact ever between Rudy and the others. Guede's palm print is there in the victim's blood; his DNA is everywhere; he has defensive wounds; he flees; he has motive; he has a history of knife fights and armed break-ins and on and on.
A retired FBI agent named Steve Moore has taken a detailed look at the case and has determined that the evidence shows that Amanda and Raffaele didn't do it.
This trial has shamed all of Italy. The Italian people have an obligation to rise up and reverse this outrage.
Comment by PhanuelB on October 27 22:03
Knox was found guilty of murder after a lengthy year-long trial. The United States Embassy monitored the trial, and they did not find the trial was a "travesty." They found nothing was amiss. Hillary Clinton, United States Secretary of State, has looked at the case, and found nothing amiss. The Kercher family stated they thought the trial was well done and justice was served. Knox's relatives and friends are the only ones who claim her innocence. Lucky for Knox she is in Italy, where there is no death penalty, like in her own country.
I really feel for the Kercher family to have to further endure more tasteless carpet-baggers trying to make a buck off the tragedy and horror of Meredith's murder.

Amazing how so many so called facts are in the comments and they conflict. To me the trial is a JUDICIAL TRAIN WRECK! Rudy is a multiple burglar and the prosecutor was given a suspended jail sentence. In my opinion Rudy, the burglar' is where the evidence points!!
