Katy Perry cameo axed from Sesame Street
By Eleanor Young on Friday 24 September 2010
Just days after Katy Perry’s Sesame Street cameo was released online, the star’s singing segment has been axed from the show, following viewers’ complaints about her revealing attire.

The songstress teamed up with famous critter Elmo for a singalong to her Hot and Cold hit, which she’d specially tweaked for the singing segment designed to teach young viewers about opposites.
But following a barrage of complaints over Katy’s cleavage, it seems producers have decided to ban the clip from the show.
‘We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show because we know that a child learns best when co-viewing with a parent or care-giver,’ said bosses in a statement released after the uproar.
‘We also value our viewer's opinions and particularly those of parents.
'In light of the feedback we've received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on You Tube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of Sesame Street’

But bosses did confirm the clip will still be able to be viewed online. ‘Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on You Tube,’ one added.

They change their minds like a girl changes clothes.

Come on folks, that outfit she's wearing has her covered up all the way to her neckline!!! It's similar to the outfits that are worn by figure skaters. That top portion is skin colored. Do these same people that are complaining let their children watch the Olympics? Or is that too racy as well? If they are so concerned about what their children watch, then they should be complaining about Sesame Street wanting to use her in the first place. Have you seen her issue of the "Rolling Stone?"

Parents are over reacting! Shame on sesame street for not allowing this clip. It was beyond tasteful.
Comment by Rachel on September 24 13:48
I thought it was super cute. I would be offended if I was Katy. Look, the execs don't sit intheir offices when stars are there. They watched the filming and at that time there was no issues. Before it was released someone approved it. BTW what percentage of children who would be watching still breast feed? To them, breast are only food sources. Why do adults have to sexualize things for children?

Ok, I have a 4 year old daughter and I personally would let her watch this. Needless to say I think SpongeBob at times is a little "racy", (Patrick dressed up as a woman in high heels) but I have to do my job as a parent and supervise. I think there are worse things on t.v to be concerned about. Again, I think the video was fine. I actually got a kick out of it.

I am sick and tired of a few uptight *******s that get all the attention. This was not even remotely a BFD. It was an innocent and fun song, and Childrens Television Workshop ought to be ashamed. This is tame compared to most of the other crap these kids are bombarded with on an hourly basis.
Comment by JohnPaulGeorgeRingo on September 24 14:16
They could have dressed Katy in anything, so why all the chest? Parents have a right to be worried when there's that much skin showing! What could have been a totally cute clip on the show is now unfortunately axed - shame on the wardrobe department! Shoulda known better...

Really? Incredibly stupid!
Comment by Bob on September 24 14:34
You'd need cleavage to show clevage, what a over reaction!!!
Comment by Aldo on September 24 14:43
Come on folks, It was fine, watch dancing with the stars and you can see more skin, people think about the scared paranoid kids you must be raising
Comment by jim on September 24 15:04
I dont think it should of been taken off the show because wee kids dont really focus on clevage they focus on the song or elmo, i think it was a bit of a overraction.
Comment by Siobhan on September 24 15:30
It was stupid to axe this video clip. I think it was cute and her outfit was as cute as she was. How old are Sesame Street "viewers" anyway? They're children! All they see is a pretty girl singing and playing with Elmo. Parents need to RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!
Comment by Roberta on September 24 16:03
Maybe she could worn something else for a kids show, but that's from a grownups point of view. I doubt kids would pay attention to her boobs.
Comment by Frida on September 24 16:07
I love it. Cleavage?!?! Really?!?! Kids see more boobs on the news or just commercials. Get over it Sesame street.
Comment by Angela on September 24 16:08
She is horrible, its not her clothes its her lack of talent. Horrible ...
Comment by Dude on September 24 16:13
I think for someone that has small children it is to revealing.you could see her boobs shaking when she ran not for cool for a kid show

Once again stupidity strikes again folks. I've seen disney stars like Tinkerbell with more cleavage and shorter skirts than that. I believe Katy Perry was similar to that of a princess in the eyes of a child.
I find it amusing that the little mermaid in a shell bikini top or a scantly clad Jasmine are ok. But a real woman shows a little cleavage on Seseme Street. And recieves almost the same response as if she had done the show nude or topless. I mean really people. Its not like she pulled a Janet Jackson having a "wardrobe malfunction" on live television. Where I'm almost positive, more children watch football with their parents, than they watch Seseme Street.
Besides this is 2010 not 1950. In this day and age, cleavage is more common in stores, the workplace, and the home than a jacket in -40 degree weather. I mean, you can't even throw a stone, without running into cleavage or less than that.
I am seriously starting to believe that the large number of complaints. Were either from grandparents, who were raised in a different era, or people who couldn't properly fit in a halter top if their life depended on it. I find it far more appalling to see an obese person in a tight shirt. Than the hardly noticable, professionally coordinated, wardrobe of Katy Perry. Which in fact, only hinted at cleavage, not exploited it.
In our daily lives, wwe find far worse things on regular television than this. It is difficult enough as it is to get certain celebrities to work for free on public television. She took the time out of her busy schedule to do this for the children. You people think that's bad, imagine if Lady Gaga were on the show.
What's next? Are you going to ban chocolate cookies because they are fatting? Hell no you're not because that would effect your gluttonous, self conscience, self righteous ass. Really people get out of 1950 and get with the program. People like you are ruining our society. You should all do the world a favor and jump off of a cliff. Because, in my opinion, you are a waste of oxygen.

I can't imagine the kids who watch Sesame Street taking any notice of Katy's cleavage, they're just gonna enjoy the show for what it is not be glued to her boobs throughout the song, they probably prefer Elmo! And as for the parents who complained, why did they spend all their time watching Katy's chest - and them complain about it. Weird people.
Comment by angelicjulie on September 24 20:46
I loved it and so did my kids. Shame on you PBS for not letting Katy be on telly with Elmo. If they didn't like her dress, why didn't they re-record it with Katy in another outfit? Or is that just too sensible an idea?
Comment by Emma on September 25 07:43
Both of my children learned alphabet, shapes, numbers etc from Sesame Street and have loved watching their own children getting the same kick out of the same characters! This is PC going mad!! Execs had no problem in the first place, what idiot decided against this item? It is perfectly acceptable and quite funny in places. When young children can't understand what the problem is, I think someone needs to get a life to say the least!!
Comment by irate nanna on September 25 19:01
She is showing way too much of her chest (which, strangely enough, doesn't look as big as normal in this clip) for a kids show, especially when she is running. Why can't she just cover up a bit for children's TV? Children may well not be noticing her cleavage but it is still inappropriate, children are getting sexualised at way too young an age as it is.
Comment by Saetana on September 26 00:39
There is nothing wrong with with clip. Katy looks fine in her outfit, you cannot see anything that you don't see at the beach or swimming pool.
What is wrong with these people, there is nothing wrong in protecting children but this is overkill!!
