Jay-Z signs Will Smith's daughter

Willow Smith - Jay-Z Signs Will Smith's Daughter - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

We're used to celebrity offspring carving out their own careers, but Will Smith's daughter has set a new first - the nine-year-old has just been signed by Jay-Z!

Willow, Will's daughter with wife Jada Pinkett Smith, now has her debut record out on Jay-Z's label Roc Nation.

She was chatting about her song, Whip My Hair, on Ryan Seacrest's radio show in the US, when Mr Beyoncé called in to explain why he signed up the pint-sized star.

'I heard the record first before I knew that it was recorded a nine-year-old, and I was like "Man, that record's a smash",' he said.

When he heard the singer, Willow, was nine, 'I was like "Whoa", he says. After discovering she was Will Smith's daughter, he says he was even more excited to work with her.

Roc Nation's official statement says the label 'is excited to work with Willow.  She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious.  It's rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age.'

Willow is already used to the attention of being a celebrity in her own right; she appeared with dad Will in film I Am Legend, and is rumoured to be launching her own clothing range with brother Jaden and Rihanna's stylist!

How on earth does she find the time at such a young age? Whatever happend to climbing trees and making your Barbie marry Action Man?!

Do you think Willow is too young for a pop career? Or will you be buying her record? Share your thoughts below!

I do think she's too young. What happened to being a kid? Even if she's talanted I think she'd benefit from spending her childhood playing with friends and going to school. There are too many bad stories surrounding child stars as it is.

Wow!

I look at these kids of wealthy people and I realise, one thing that I have had and they will never have is CHILDHOOD. Thank god and my parents for that. -

Vanity all is vanity and grasping of the wind in the willows! So much vain glory at an increasingly early age must surely reck havoc with the delicate and precious souls of these 'innocents' - burn out at infancy seems to be written all over their faces.

What a tragedy that the parents seem to have abdicated their role and sacred duty to nurture and protect - instead Will and Wife seem to be throwing their offsprings to the wolves(in sheep clothing). Don't tell me the credit crunch has hit them hard so they have had to send their little ones to the noxious work houses aka crazed celeb mills.

The love of money truly is the root of all evil - shudder!

What terrible risk-takers these narcissistic celeb 'parents' present as - they act invincible untill the bottom falls out of their precocious offsprings lives. Do you remember MJ - the child 'star' who grew up into a dysfunctional and self-loathing creature - all that glitters is not gold!
