Friends star Jennifer Aniston has opened up on her war of words with Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly, revealing his cutting comments over her motherhood speech caught her off guard.

Just last week, a row erupted after a press conference for Jen’s new flick The Switch, when the star controversially claimed women no longer need men to have children.

'Women are realising it more and more knowing that they don't have to settle with a man just to have that child,' she told reporters. 'Times have changed.'

But just days afterwards, US reporter Bill O’Reilly slammed the star for her remarks, branding them ‘destructive’.

'She's throwing a message out to 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds that hey, you don't need a guy, you don't need a dad,' he said of Jen’s comments. 'That's destructive to our society.'

Now Jen’s spoken out about the row for the first time, admitting she was ‘caught off guard’ by his ‘rude’ comments.

In a interview with E! News she said she was 'caught off guard as anybody would be in hearing such a rude sort of comment towards you and other women.'

In a further dig, she added: 'I think people like that must not know any better, because if they heard how they sounded I'm sure they wouldn't…speak that way.'
