Cheryl Cole has opened up on her battle with Malaria, telling Piers Morgan it was 'so scary' to have picked up the life threatening bug.

The X Factor songstress revealed all to the Britain’s Got Talent judge as she attended his wedding celebration in LA, along with rumoured new man Derek Hough, Sharon Osbourne and Amanda Holden.

'She looked fabulous, considering what she's been through,' Piers told the Sun of the stunning star, who stepped out in a dark blue dress.

And sipping cocktails all evening, it seems the star was in high spirits, joking: ‘Malaria might kill me but an Apple Martini definitely won't’

But despite her quick recovery, Cheryl branded the ordeal ‘terrible’. 'It was terrible. So scary. And all from one little bite,' she said.

Now Cheryl’s back to her best, with Piers adding her eyes are 'sparkling' again. 'Cheryl’s eyes said it all. They were sad and lonely last time I saw her in June. Now they’re sparkling again,' he said.

Describing Derek as 'intelligent, charming and very, very protective of Cheryl', Piers couldn’t resist a little joke.

'Not been your year for bad experiences with nasty little things, has it?' he teased.

He said: ‘She laughed. Then rewarded me with a scolding slap on the arm.'

I'm glad to see Cheryl has her sparkle back! I found her when I googled Malaria! Like Cheryl, I'm helping battle the disease that's killing so many!
