Troubled Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan hit a new low yesterday, after being sentenced to a whopping 90 days in jail by a Beverly Hills judge.

Things have gone from bad to worse for the wayward actress, who, just last month was ordered to wear an electronic tag after being charged with drink driving.

During her first sentence, officials also ruled she must steer clear of alcohol, and attend alcohol education classes.

But after citing her busy work schedule as the reason for missing the regular sessions, and activating her electronic tag after drinking at an MTV party, officials decided Lindsay wasn’t taking her sentence seriously, and hauled her back in for violating the terms of her probation.

Breaking down in front of the Supreme Court judge, Lindsay made tearful plea in a last ditch attempt to avoid a jail term.

‘I'm not taking this as a joke. It's my life and my career, something I have worked for my entire life,’ the actress sobbed.

‘I have tried to do the best I can. I really did think I was doing what I was supposed to do, and I mean it with all my heart.’

But the judge remained firm, telling the emotional star: ‘I couldn't have been more clear, and it wasn't done. It is like someone who doesn't think it's cheating unless she gets caught.’

It’s thought the actress will start her 90-day sentence on July 20, and will also be required to serve time as an in-patient on a substance abuse programme once she is released.

Did the judge go too far by giving Lindsay a prison sentence? Or does the wayward star need to start playing by the rules? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

I think the sentence is too light - she deserves far longer, then we don't need to be bombarded with media coverage of her all the time. She really is a talentless waste of space & hopefully once she's relaeased everyone will have forgotten about her - there are REAL stars out there, with talent & style & intelligence - we don't need the likes of Lohan... (Just fade away gracefully, if you can, Lindsay)

I think the judge is quite right - she obviously did not comply with the court's initial sentence so should expect to pay the price. Just because she is an actress should not mean she gets special treatment.

Anybody who drives under the influence risks not only their own lives but also those around them.

See Lindsay? NO ONE is above the law!!! Hopefully this will act as a warning to all the other overpaid A-listers who think they can evade jail time

Lindsay Lohan is a talented actress and she may be going off the rails just now but I think a 90 day prison sentence is harsh. I think a 30 day sentence would be enough to make her take her behaviour more seriously. Drew Barrymore was also a child actress who went off the rails for a while and I think you can't expect someone to grow up normally when they become famous in a Hollywood atmosphere at such a young age unless they have parents who keep them on the straight and narrow and to me it looks like Lindsay's home life has also been unstable.

The decision is right....if only jim morrisson or elvis was sentenced for their drink and drug abuse they may still be alive today. hopefully this will be the best thing that has happened to her in years.

People like Linsay, Paris should be sent to the Congo jungle to be taught a lesson. They are spoilt rich brats who have zero respect for the rest of society and world. Prison to them is joke , Paris used it as catwalk! stop reporting about them. It gives them exactly what they want, attention.

To be honest, it's not like she can't afford a driver or taxi to take her home after she's been out. Drink driving is just silly, she's got no excuse!

She thinks its all a joke! Anyone notice that her middle finger nail had the words 'f*** u' painted on it.....in court!! Yeah she's really bothered.

Hopefully she will pull herself together but cant help worrying its another celeb car crash ending coming.
Comment by Zoey on July 07 13:53

It'll do her good so long as an appeal isn't launched and shes out within hours, which is what usually happens to the hollywood social ites. Anyhow, if she comes through this she could turn a corner. Look how we all slagged off Robert Downey Jr when he was having his relapses, and just look at him now!!
Good luck Lindsay. Battle on you'll get there if you want to.
Comment by Catherine on July 07 15:42

Serves her right; it's as simple as that.
Comment by Baron Beauxlocks on July 07 20:06

I think thats fair if she did it its no one to blame but herself!
Comment by Natasha on July 07 21:24

i wonder how many days she'll ACTUALLY spend in prison then.
Comment by Robyn on July 07 21:29

90 days is not that long. She's been given plenty of chances and eventually a firm line needs to be taken. Celebrities shouldn't be given preferential treatment by the law, they're no different.
Comment by Loraine on July 07 22:59

Really?!? 3 months? For what? Drinking at a party. That's too harsh. Shes not violating any thing by drinking and not driving. Any one of you ppl would have thought it unfair if it happened to you.
Comment by Dave on July 08 09:22

It absolutely amazes me that some people think she was treated too harshly. If anyone else had been ordered to this classes and decided to show up whenever they felt like it, they would be quickly reprimanded and thrown in jail. Does she think that she is the only one who works and has to juggle their schedule? What is up with the comment "and I was working with children" - what relevance is that?!! She needs to take responsibility and I only hope that they make her do at least 60 days before they let her out. If Martha Stewart can do it, so can she!!!
