Jennifer Hudson: Family murders 'All a Blur'

Dream Girls star Jennifer Hudson has opened up on the tragic murders of her mother, brother and nephew for the first time, in a new interview with VH1.

After months of silence, the star has finally decided to speak out about the harrowing events, admitting at the time it was ‘all a blur'.

Jen also told how she went into seclusion during the ordeal, staying in one room for ‘almost two weeks straight', and relying on prayer to get her through.

'It's all a blur, it was surreal,' she said of the events.

'For almost two weeks straight . . . [I was] inside one room with just family and friends coming in and out.

'I prayed when I'd get up in the morning and prayed before I laid down at night.'

Despite her public silence, Jen addressed her ordeal through music at the Grammy Awards in 2009 with a moving performance of her track, You Pulled Me Through.

'I was definitely thinking of my family when I was singing that song,' she revealed.

'I could hear my brother in my head, like, 'Jennifer, you need to kill this, you need to get up and do it.' I knew he would be disappointed if I didn't do it justice.''

Adding that her son David - with fiancé David Otunga - has helped her through the difficult times, she said: ‘He makes me feel like the most special person on earth. I want him to get the same love and the same upbringing my mother gave us.'

Jennifer Hudson is truely a class act. One of the nicest and kindest artist in the business. I love her warm spirit. She is one of the strongest young person I have ever seen. Jen and her family had to endure unimaginable grief. I am just excited to see how happy she has became. Thanks to her gorgeous baby boy, her handsome finace, and the great tune of music. God truely have favor on her life, because she is certainly a shining bright light for all to see.
