Gossip Girl Taylor Momsen has been blasted over claims she owns a collection of knives, after revealing she carries a switchblade with her wherever she goes.

The 16-year-old US star has been in the capital promoting her latest ventures - a clothing line with New Look and brand new band The Pretty Reckless.

But she hasn't gone down too well in the UK, reportedly being taken off a live GMTV broadcast for swearing, and now owning up to an obsession with knives.

'I have a knife collection. I have my favourite black knife with me all the time. It's a switchblade,' Taylor revealed in a recent interview.

'It relaxes me to flick it. I close it and open it.

The teenage star admitted she had even taken one of her knives on a plane, after forgetting to take it out of her handbag.

‘I flew from New York to Los Angeles and still had a couple of knives in my purse. I thought I took them all out but they got tucked up in the folds' she said.

'I took them through security, took them on the plane, opened my bag to get my wallet in LA and they fell out. I was like 'holy s***'.'

And now the star has been blasted by anti-violence groups over her comments, which have been branded ‘warped' and ‘appalling' by campaigners.

Jesus, she's just carrying a knife! It's not like she's promoting violence by it, it's just there.
People can be so stuck up and worry about things that aren't a problem, while there are actual problems that need to be solved. But no, let's talk about how horrible it is that the girl carries a knife.
For the love of everything that is holy, are you now suspecting her to be in a gang too? Because where there are knives, must be organised crime.
Sheesh, I carry a knife too. So?

I understand what Chai is saying it shouldn't be a big deal, a lot of traders carry knives.
The issue really is you don't brag about it on telly though, especially when this country has such a bad record for knife crime. Let's be honest she's only saying it for shock effect, before this I never even heard of her. She's a silly attention seeking little girl, lest we forget she's also got a band to promote and I suppose she thinks this makes her come across 'rock 'n roll'.
My boyfriend is in a band, they gig at least once a week and we regularly attend friend's gig and open mic nights, we're rock 'n' roll and i've never had to tell anyone I carry a knife or take loads of drugs...the most rock 'n' roll people just keep schtum and go about their business because the music will always speak for itself.

I watched her interview on This Morning,she is just a silly girl trying to pretend she doesn't care what people think. She is blatantly saying and acting the way she is for a reaction, which the British press and public are giving her. Her parents or manager should have more control and guidance.

It's not that she's carrying it. It's the way she's going on about it, promoting it as some sort of fashion accessory. That's how these things start. However you look at it, it's a weapon, by carrying one, you are more likely to use it in a potentially dangerous situation.
Some celebs are trying to campaign against knife crime, this just undoes that work.

This girl is trying way too hard to be "edgy" and seem older than she is. Truth is she's just a ridiculous 16-year old girl. Where are her parents? I don't see good things for her in the future unfortunately. I'm not a prude in any way but I don't think 16-yearolds should run around the stage in barely there clothes and brag about carrying knives around.

i know a lot of girls who look up to this girl calling her amazing etc. What kind of role model is this girl if she goes around with knifes in her purse?
With the rising numbers of knife crimes all over the world this isnt the kind of news you want to hear about. if anything this girl sounds dangerous.
I will admit that she is not advertising violence or using them, but she is showing herself as a potential threat to people in the street by carrying knifes. whether it relaxes her or not, its not right full stop.
any average citizen would be put away for a confession like this, so why is it all of a sudden different for stars. this girl needs to be taught right from wrong.
