Tributes flood in as Malcolm McLaren dies aged 64 - in Switzerland, loses battle with cancer - News - Marie Claire

The Sex Pistols creator Malcolm Mclaren has died in a clinic in Switzerland aged 64.

The legendary music manager lost his battle with cancer yesterday - an illness he'd kept hidden from the public for months.

He died with his 42-year-old son Joe Corre by his side.

Malcolm first found notoriety when he co-founded the infamous Sex shop on London's Kings Road in 1981 with then partner Vivienne Westwood.

But fame really took hold when he created punk rockers The Sex Pistols, and cleverly manufactured the outrageously rebellious nature which made them so ground-breaking.

Vivienne Westwood has spoken out since news of his death broke, describing him as a ‘very charismatic, special and talented person.'

When we were young and I fell in love with Malcolm, I thought he was beautiful and I still do,' she said.

‘The thought of him dead is really something very sad. We hadn't been in touch for a long time.'

Joe Corre, Malcolm's son with Dame Westwood, described his dad as ‘the original punk rocker' who ‘revolutionised the world.'

‘He's somebody I'm incredibly proud of,' he added. ‘He's a real beacon of a man for people to look up to.'

Young Kim, Malcolm's partner of 12 years, described him as 'the ultimate post-modern artist.'

'I think Malcolm recognised he had changed culture,' she said. 'He saw he had changed the world.'

John Lydon, better known as the Pistols' Johnny Rotten, also issued a tribute saying: ‘For me Malc was always entertaining, and I hope you remember that.'

‘Above all else he was an entertainer and I will miss him, and so should you.'

Very sad to read this. Goodbye Mr.Mclaren. You were a true original and very brave to keep your cancer a secret. Shake up the heavens, won't you?

Anyone who lived through the Sex Pistols time knows what a pioneer and visionary he really was in the music business
