Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr split

In what could be a scandalous storyline lifted directly from their hit US show, Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr have reportedly split, after she was spotted getting a bit too close with one of his friends.

Szohr was allegedly seen being 'openly affectionate and flirty' with one of her beau's best mates, Marco Minuto.

A source revealed to the New York Post: 'Jessica recently celebrated her birthday in LA and was being openly affectionate and flirty with Marco. They ended up back at the same hotel, but nobody knows what happened behind closed doors. Her flirty behaviour shocked a lot of their friends, so word quickly got back to Ed, who has been filming in Europe.'

Once news reached Westwick, he reportedly swiftly called his girlfriend to end their relationship.

The source added: 'She's been begging Ed to take her back, but he is deeply hurt. He can't believe that she carried on this way with one of his friends.'

The stars - who play Vanessa and Chuck in the hit US show - hooked up after meeting on set in 2008. Although they initially kept things quiet, Szohr was happy to dish on her man to Teen Vogue last year, calling him, 'awesome and smart and talented and adorable, and we make each other laugh.'

It's been a bad week for Gossip Girl romance - Leighton Meester also split from her beau, Sebastian Stam.
