Katie Price plans make-up range for children
By Lucy Hutchings on Wednesday 17 March 2010
She already has a string of books, a line of equestrian clothing, a signature perfume and haircare products to her name, but now Katie Price reportedly wants to try her hand at a range of children's make-up.
Inspired by her two-year-old daughter Princess, the 31-year-old model revealed her plans on her ITV2 reality TV show.
Talking to camera, she explains: 'Obviously the story would be she nicks my make-up all the time, it's not safe for her to use a lady's mascara... edible lipstick, little case with wipes to take your make-up off - you can get a nice case for make-up wipes, lipsticks, blushers and mascara and nail varnishes.'
But in the same episode her manager is seen warning her that the venture could prompt negative press: 'There will be a lot of PR from this because it can be quite controversial.'
To which Price promptly replies, 'That's why I like to do it. For all you haters out there.'
If she does go ahead with the latest business plan, then she's likely to face opposition from ex Peter Andre.
He publicly blasted his former wife when she posted pictures of their daughter on Facebook wearing false lashes and a full face of make-up.
At the time he told the press: 'If I'm honest, I'm absolutely disgusted and to me that's the worst thing to be worried about. It's a two-year-old girl and to me that's disgusting.'
What do you think of Price's plans - just harmless fun, or another bid for controversy? Let us know in the comments box below.

This woman is horrendous. And this venture sounds horrendous.
Comment by Kate on March 17 10:16
That woman is revolting.
Comment by Nadine on March 17 11:00
Wait for the comments from Peter!!!!! and thats why she does it!!!!
The womans really worried about her 'career'
A makeup range directly targeted as such is a far cry from little girl playing with her mums makeup box and dressup....
Shes clearly desperate for attention and has almost said this..poor Alex and poor Peter..I guess he will in the end go for custody..etc.
Comment by anon on March 17 11:02
There nothing wrong with a bit of make up my daughter 4 she uses nail vanish and makeup not all the time give katie a break anything to a moan go on katie right behind u sam from sheffield
Comment by sam on March 17 11:17
The woman has truly gone completely mad! Why would anyone want to encourage their children to put make up on! Children are growing up too fast as it is we should be encouraging children to be children and enjoy their childhood! Who would want their children to turn out like Katie Price, she may appear to be successful in monetary terms but she has sold her soul to the highest bidder!!
Comment by Helen on March 17 12:51
Children grow up way too quickly these days - let them have their childhood without looking like mini-adults
Comment by Cath on March 17 12:53
In all seriousness, if people are unable to see the problem with this idea then you all need your heads testing! Not only do we have to worry about the objectification and sexualisation of women, but now children as well! I didn't wear nail varnish until I was 13 and make-up until I was 18. This is something I will be repeating when I have a little girl. Why do we seem to want our children to grow up so quickly? Let children be children for as long as possible and let our little girls remain untouched by the mass media ideal of female "perfection".
Comment by Shelley on March 17 12:58
Oh Sam its got nothing to do with the fact that its Katie Price doing this..the reality is that this is so so wrong!!!
Comment by Nic on March 17 12:58
I agree with Sam - my five year old loves using lipstick, 'eye blusher' as she calls it and nail varnish for dressing up play and if Katie can develop a range specifically for small children, preferably without all the nasty chemicals in it, then fair play to her. There is definitely a market there for it.
Comment by Kerry Brown on March 17 13:01
Oh come on!! all this about Katie being a disgusting mother. Ok, I dont agree with everything she does, of course not, but then I dont agree with everything anyone does, we are not perfect. I am nearly 50! I can remember being a little girl and yes playing with my mums make-up but..... all us little girls also had our own make-up, made specifically for children. No we didn't wear it all the time, but it was for PLAYING!! It didn't make us grow up quicker. We also had dolls and prams, strangely enough none of us were pregnant by the time we were old enough!!! My daughter had a little girls makeup set when she was tiny, spent most of the time putting it on her daddy if I recall. Little girls like playing with make-up, simple as that. I know the outcries will be about responsible parenting. I really dont have a problem with this. Katie is a money making machine but caught the programme referred to the other night, dont usually watch it but God those kiddies love her and she loves them. They are happy little ones with two parents who love them. Yes Peter will probably kick off about this - more headlines. Back to the point in hand, little girls playing with make-up - not a problem. How about showing concern about children who really ARE being abused whilst the social services turn a blind eye for fear of reprisals. I would have a problem if Katie was injecting the little girl with Botox or sticking her under a sunbed (Katie you skin is looking bad by the way) but toy make-up, edible lipstick et al. No problem. Oooh sorry bit of a rant there :-)
Comment by Carole on March 17 13:03
Didn't anyone play with Tinkerbell make-up kits when they were really young? My mum brought me a set and we would do our make-up together, it was all child friendly, my fave was the peel off nail varnish that was also pretty tasty :-)
I think people are so ready with negative comments just because of who is marketing it...
Comment by Katie on March 17 13:10
Sam, your 4 year-old daughter pinching your makeup is one thing; manufacturing a range aimed at kids is quite something else. Give them a fruity lip balm but for goodness sake remember that they're children. Enough for the makeup shenanigans when they hit their teens. As for Katie P: shameless, self-centred marketing for her own ends, as usual.
Comment by Theresa on March 17 13:15
OH my!!!!..Whatever Katie Price is going to do is going to get slated! Make up for kids has been around for years and years! It's on lots of the little girl magazines sold in shops ect ect..its made because lots of little girls love to PLAY dress up and this make up is safer for their skin and saves mums make up bags from geting ruined! Im sorry anon but there has been kids makeup around way before this Katie thing!!...Barbie ect all do it!..There is nothing wrong with a little dress up!!...Get Real..everything is made big and made to be wrong these days!! sort it out!
Comment by Nik Lud on March 17 13:17
Basic good manners prevent me from expressing what I really feel about this pitiful woman!
Comment by LR on March 17 13:27
She's all about the drama - always has been and always will be! And that's why she keeps doing it, to get a reaction out of the press and the public. We should all just ignore her - no doubt she won't like that very much.
Comment by Amy on March 17 13:32
I had a little mermaid childrens make up set when I was about 10 or 11. but my parents didn't allow me to wear grown up make up til i was about 15, and even then, not much, and not to school. i think childrens make up is ok, but maybe 2 years old is a bit soon....?! maybe for ages 7+? As per Katie above, i too loved the peel-off nail varnish hehe I would also like to add that I didn't become a katie price look alike from wear kid make-up!
Comment by Grace, age 25 on March 17 13:35
First off you don't know whether she's just winding Peter up because he's gonna respond because it keeps him in the headlines and she's nasty, (I don't think he could bear to dissapear into 'Mysterious Girl' obsecurity again). Then does she mean proper make-up for little girls to wear out, or dressing up make-up to play indoors with?
When I say dressing up make-up I mean like when we were kids and you put on your mum's high heels and 80's clothes and run around the house in your Barbie Girl Dressing Up Make-up. My mum would never let me go out the house with it, she wouldn't put pics of me on the internet if we'd had it in the 90's, but it was what all the little girls would do. I used to watch my mum getting ready and then put her lippy all over my face.
If she means make-up for little girls to go out in then that is wrong, there is a difference between playing and wearing for real.
Comment by Fabienne on March 17 13:49
To be quite honest I feel Katie Price is so desperate to keep herself in the limelight these days that she is willing to do anything that will get her publicity and to hell with who she offends. Her children are meant to be the world to her, so why can't she concentrate on normal day to day things that children grow up with and can be admired for instead of turning them into a mini 'trollop' which is what she herself seems.
Comment by Moira Hall on March 17 14:01
There is nothing wrong with edible make up, kids have their faces painted all the time, they love it and it surely doesn't attract more phaedophiles.
Peter Andre is a laughing stock and that's why they see his shows, merely to have a laugh.

Comment by anna on March 17 14:27
I'm sorry but I think fame has truly gone to her head and she thinks she can bring anything to the market including make for kids, what is she thinking. If I had a daughter I would not be letting her think make up is something a child needs apart from when you are playing dress up. What's wrong with natural beauty instead of being caked in make up. Desperate to make money I say. I'm with Helen on this one.
Comment by Clare on March 17 14:30
I think this is terrible. I find little girls in makeup with handbags and little heals petrifying. I hope my own children will stay pure from makeup until they are in their teens - as I chose to do. I think regular makeup use and anything body altering from a young age will only increase future illnesses such as anorexia or body dysmorphia. Oh I hope she isn't allowed to release kid's makeup.
Comment by Helena on March 17 15:26
A very bad idea our children are already under enough pressure about their looks. Sexualising children is harmful Katie.
Comment by Joy on March 17 15:30
Most small girls like to try mum's makeup, that is harmless. They should NOT be targeted however by stores selling makeup products aimed at children.Katie Price needs to have crash course on how to love and protect kids.
Comment by kathy on March 17 16:29
I think this is disgraceful... girls will start looking like prostitutes before they turn 10 ! However I do agree that no matter how strong my opinion, it is not my (or anyone else's) place to tell Katie how to run her life. And there's no law saying she can't....
Comment by kate simpson on March 17 17:20
There is plenty of time for children to use make up when they are adults. This would be sending out the wrong messages. The reason Katie like it is because it gets everyone talking about as we are here. She has to do somthing to keep herself in the limelight and if thats by using her children she will. I am not a Katie hater I just feel she is going about this all the wrong way.
Comment by Eileen on March 17 17:42
How ridiculous and unnecessary! Little girls (and sometimes boys) play with their mum's make-up and clothes for fun and there are already some toy 'lipsticks' etc for the dressing up boxes - that's fine, but I think Katie is taking it a step too far - she's only thinking of the potential money she can make out of this.
Comment by RB on March 17 17:47
Love it - Katie gets the nation's women's backs-up AGAIN ...which is exactly what she wants to do!!
Small girls always play with make - so what! It is up to the parent to monitor the situation...you can't blame Katie for girls walking around overmade up. That is the responsibility of a parent!
Kate Simpson - girls already look like prostitutes in case you haven't noticed! Again it's a parents responsibility but as standards have slipped in the UK what do you expect!
Comment by Nellie on March 17 18:13
She is amazing and I think she's doing what the young children from this era want! I believe she is doing the best she can for herself and her family.
I'm right behind you katie! xxx
Comment by lea on March 17 21:50
A make up range for children is nothing new Im 36 and when i was eight or nine years old around about 1981 my mum got me a little lipstick, mini blusher and nail polish from Avons Little Blossom range.Because it was aimed at young girls though it all came off with soap and water
Comment by elizabeth on March 18 00:15
Katie-Peter issues aside, how can teaching children Princess's age to eat make-up be responsible? They won't just stick to eating the "edible" range, they'll eat any make-up they can get their little hands on!
Comment by Andria on March 18 08:43
She disgusts me every time.
Comment by Sarah Grigor on March 18 08:59
I had a makeup set when I was a kid (50s ),so did my girls .(70s) As do my grandchildren now .
Katie can't do right for doing wrong with some people .
Comment by Sarah on March 18 14:01
It's not NORMAL for a 2 year old to wear make up! If she starts this up then were going to see more and more girls become obsessed with there face it will also cause girls who aren't "pretty" to dislike themselves even more. Its not all about looks, i mean look at katie whats natural about her?
Comment by Michelle on March 18 14:25
seriously, its a bit of fun. little girls love things like that. if it was kate moss or someone that was bringing out a akes up for kids range everyone would be prasing her saying its the best thing ever!! we will soon see how much of a "bad idea" it is when it comes out and whether it sells or not. and as for peter, he is just as much of an idiot as she is!
Comment by Lydia on March 18 16:07
I dnt see it as a problem. I think Katie Price is brilliant, she just gets a lot of stick because of who she is. All little girls play with make-up and get dressed up. Why should Katie get bad press because she has invented a new make-up with her daughters name on it. I agree, let your kids be kids, but the parent controls the kids, so why can't they wear make-up when they are playing dress up and wanting to be little princesses. It doesn't mean your a bad parent. They will want to copy thier mums one day. I wish I had the money and life that Katie has, cus I wud do exactly the same. It's stupid. Go Kate!!!!!
Comment by Cara on March 18 17:47
each to their own...their are plenty of mothers that enter their kids into modelling and safer makeup...whats wrong with that????all girls love make-up and to buy some that doesnt irritate them...well whats wrong with that???or is it just because katie price is involved??why the hell would pete get custody over that lol????
Comment by cat on March 18 18:39
So you are all trying to say as a child u never sneaked into your mums make up box and played with her make up, for one i dont think she is doing it for kids to be going out with a made face its called having FUN!!as a child i had make up made by avon made for kids think people forget thease things due to the katie price name being attached nothing to do with children growing up to fast my daughters 2 and knows where lipstick goes after watching adults, think people need to give her a break seriously.
Comment by karla allan on March 19 08:35
Little girls have always worn mum's make-up and shoes (Remember the tinkerbell range?) If this range is good quality an non harmful then a bit of fun on special days is fine. I am totally against full-time wearing of make up - even mascara in schools should not be alowed. I'd issue any teens wearing it at school with a pack of wipes and get them to remove it. Good bright colours though! else mum's will be best!
Comment by Hennamay on March 19 12:26
For heavens sake lets get back to the days when children dressed and behaved like children.Who in their right mind would let a child wear anything this horrible woman promotes. The sooner she clears off to live in the US the better
Comment by Barbara on March 19 16:11
This venture is an attack on childhood from a very self centred woman.
Comment by Marion Anderson on March 23 21:31
My niece loves playing with my sisters make up so i think this is a good idea! They can both do their make up together then. Its better than using adult make up for kids skin, at least children will have their own!
Comment by Lauren on March 26 15:28
I think that the make-up range for children is a great idea theres lots of it out there people are only complianing because its katie price thts doing it if it was anybody else then nobody would think anything of it.if i had chidren i would rather them wear safe make-up then my own which could harm them.
Comment by Amyy on March 31 14:11
go on katie I THINK ITS A GOOD IDEA TO BRING A RANGE OF MAKEUP OUT FOR KIDS BECAUSE THEY DO ALWAYS GO FOR THERE MUMS MAKEUP GOOOOO ON KATIE YOUR THE BEST
Comment by georgia on April 12 08:21
i think it is a good idea!
Comment by april on April 15 15:25
GO ON KATIE PRICE!!!!!!!
This woman has done nothing wrong at all, my daughter uses make-up all the time whilst shes dressing up. Just something what girls love! So i cant see anything wrong with her bringing out a range which is safe for children to use.
gan on the pricey ;)
Comment by alex on April 17 22:04
why do we all want our kids to grow up so quickly? Let them be children, you are allowed to say no sometimes to your kids and make up should be one of those no's. Let them brush hair or put hairclips on dolls instead.
Comment by cookie monster on April 21 18:08
I think this a very good idea as my 4 year old daughter dances and when she does shows they are required to wear make up. Obviously child friendly make is going to be better on her skin that adults make up . Go katie!!!
Comment by Caroline on April 26 19:23
I dont think there is anything wrong with a child having a bit of fun. Its not like make up is going to kill you, you can wash it off. As long as you dont cake them in make up its fine.Stop giving Katie Price a hard time after all she is just human. Yeah she is nasty sometimes but so do we all ?
Comment by Emma on June 18 15:55
No one elses kids like dressing up sometimes? I think its a great idea!
Comment by Jade on July 05 14:09
my 5 yr old has asked for her own make up to play with when she does dress up which is fine,it's not like i am going to let her wear it every day but little girls want to be like mummy we give them dolls and prams to push around so r we encouring them to go out and have babies.time to give katie price a break.
Comment by alison on August 19 21:46
I think this is a fabulous idea. My 5yr old is always asking for my makeup on and has asked for some for her birthday. I was really hoping katies line was up and running as I would have ordered some. Katie would be providing a safe way for kids to role play. Love it Kate.
Comment by Lisa on September 13 17:28
every one needs to get a life . i have two daughters that are always wanting my makeup on and most the time they go in my makeup bag and sneek it on with out me knowing and its not cheap makeup i use so it gets ruiend . i think its a top idea as long as its tested and child friendly (i cant wait till it comes out ill be first in line )
Comment by amanda on September 30 23:11
I dont think that this idea is at all negative we can take so many possative parts of this, and certainly being a mam of three and my youngest girl is just four, we can teach them where to put the makeup, so that they can play with it sensibly, they can copy mum and not get your ded expensive best makeup all over the floor or your white linen, and any way its natural to want to look pretty, i put my girls makeup on if they ask me,i love makeup. your mam is your icon and if katey price wants to have a rang for children then im sure she will make it as safe and pretty and sparkly as she can for our precious babies, i cant wait for it. bring it on, ps for halloween i did put fake eyelashes on my four year old milli-mae and she loved it. pss children may be growing up a little quicker and to try to prevent them from wearing it is not a good idea, if they want to wear it guide them supportively, and safely, come on girls its only make up.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
