Jennifer Aniston celebrated her 41st birthday at the weekend with a handful of her closest pals... and Gerard Butler.

Fuelling speculation that they are far more than just good friends, the pair relaxed by Jen's private pool, after she splashed out and treated friends to a trip to an exclusive resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Jen's small group also included fellow Friends star Courteney Cox, as well as singer Sheryl Crow.

But the A-List birthday gathering was a low key affair - there was no partying for these pals! Instead they sat and chatted around the pool and lounged in the sun.

Rumours that Jen and Gerard are an item have been flying around Hollywood ever since they grew close on set filming their upcoming movie The Bounty Hunter.

And the pair added further fuel to the fire when they attended the Golden Globes together in January.

Insiders say the rumoured couple stayed close during the after-show parties, and even had organisers gossiping about their PDAs on their walkie talkies.

The pair were also pictured together again on the night of the Hope for Haiti Now telethon, as they helped raise money during the celeb-packed charity evening.

And friends say Gerard being invited to Jen's private birthday celebrations is very significant.

‘Him turning up in Mexico is a good sign. If she is inviting him to hang out with her closest friends they must be getting serious,' said a source.
