I don't see why Elaine Paige has to be so rude?! Yes Susan Boyle was catapulted to fame because of Britains Got Talent but not every person gets the opportunities that Elaine Paige had and are able to attend stage school.

There is no doubting that both are good singers but I think that by attacking Susan in such a way Elaine is going to find herself coming accross as being nasty to someone whos story a lot of the public find very endearing. probably not Elaines best move!

How unfair of a celebrity to make such comments about a woman who obviously based her whole life of being like her. Elaine obviously does not have the manners or sense to embrace such a kind now professional as Susan.Maybe this is attack as the best defense as Susan is such a star and deservedly so. I always have to motto what goes around comes around so watch out Elaine !!! Susan you are supported worldwide and should ignore such publicity stunts which this clearly is by a person who knows how to play the press.

To be fair I understand what she means, maybe because I go and see a lot of unsigned bands. The bands I see struggle on the 'toilet circuit' to get noticed, it's called learning your trade last time I checked and hence why these overnight sensations with the top PR companies and Simon Cowell's greed can't cope.
Having said that it's not XFactor and Simon Cowell that destroying British Music, it's the public that go out and buy that shit. Why don't you go to your local pubs and music venues and support your local bands???

I'm a pro singer and Elaine is renowned for her bitterness in the business! She's a tricky lady and has been know to be difficult to work with. However, Susan Boyle is not the greatest singer in the world but she has touched so many people's hearts with what she brings to her performances and THAT is what really matters. Good on you Susan and give it a rest Elaine!!

There's no denying that Susan Boyle is talented, so who cares how she got to fame? It's not like we're talking about Jedward here, she has an amazing voice and fully deserves the success that she's had.

She's lucky to have had the break that she did as given her age and looks most record labels wouldn't have given her a minute of their time if she'd tried to start a music career in the traditional way. So she wasn't lucky enough to get a break earlier in life and rack up a huge body of work up until this point, why penalise her for that? In 10 years time she too might be a seasoned performer with a huge body of work under her belt, everyone has to start somewhere.

I think Elaine is 100% correct. Susan Boyle has a great voice, however she is not a proffessional singer- merely the winner of yet another talent contest. Saying that- the sort of people who watch these shows and are in support of Susan- seem to tbe the type of people who want fame and celebrity to drop into their laps- rather than working hard to acheive anything themselves.

I think Elaine Paige is being very immature, unprofessional, jealous and bitter! She will loose a lot of fans I think. Yes she has been at it longer but that doesn't give her the right to slag Susan Boyle off. She has a gift and I am glad she is sharing it with the world. Elaine was lucky she got to do what she wanted when young, yes she worked hard and fought to be a Star. Put in Sue's place looking after her mother unable to do what she had always dreamed of, how would Elaine feel if the situation had been reversed? Come on Elaine think before you speak, you did yourself more harm the you did Sue.I don't think Sue will be fighting you for the next star roll but we will all continue to enjoy her singing.
Maybe this is all because Sue was asked to go on the Haiti appeal single and Elaine was not!

Quite frankly I find Ms Paiges comments pathetic! Does she feel that everyone, irrelevant of talent, has to work their way up through 'the business' to be credible? There are many talented people out there that have no idea how to break into the industry and would go unnoticed where it not for programmes like Fame Academy, Pop Idol, XF and BGT. I applaude the fact that people with genuine talent now have a shot at fame. Ms Paige was more than happy to share the limelight with Susan Boyle not so long ago...a chance for her to remind the public she's still around maybe???

I would suggest that Elaine Paige needs to remember when SHE was a nobody, with no experience of the arts, theatre, music etc. Everyone has a start point (even C rate 'stars', such as Ms Paige), it's the finish line that counts. Getting there is what allows us to gain experience. Whilst I personally do not rate Ms Boyle's talent, others do & all the time she has a fan base there is no gain in showing yourself to be a bitter & jealous person.
There is a myriad of musical talent out there & we all make our own choices. Long live freedom of choice!

If Elaine Page really said these things, then I feel sad and angry at the same time. Sad because that was a hurtful thing to say and I'm angry because she is being two-faced; singing a duet with Susan and then chastising her now. Yes, Susan catapulted to fame with YouTube but that was a lucky break that technology and social media helped along. I'm sure Elaine Page would have liked such a break early in her career. Ms. Page is certainly entitled to her opinions, but she could have either shut up when asked about Susan or she could have shown some class and dignity and answered in a professional, courteous manner.

So, Elaine Paige is a star! Thanks for letting me know. I truly admire her hard work, but many people in the business put in years of hard work without getting a percentage of the success enjoyed by EP so even she must admit she's had a copious supply of good luck - she's certainly not the best singer in the world and neither she nor Susan Boyle could hold a candle to that real star of the West End, Ruthie Henshall - and I'm sure Ruthie wouldn't have needed to express such undignified cattiness.

Went to see Elaine Page in Cats & we were so disgruntled with her performance that we walked out. I am sure we wouldnt't be doing that with SUBO & not forgetting she had her lucky break (Tim Rice)

It is very sad when a successful woman has to back stab another in order to get publicity. This reflects badly on Elaine as a person. We women should encourage others to get out there. Elaine's nastiness is discouraging to women who are trying to better their life. Am I wrong in remembering Elaine happened to have a long affair with a married man who was also very influential in the music business! Obviously this didn't help her one bit!!! I wish Susan all the best, because for many women she is an inspiration that they can better themselves or their situation... that is what has inspired so many people.

Elaine WAS great, but lately she's fallen into this talky kind of singing (see Follies) that's really annoying and begs the question: can the bitter old diva even sing any more?
