Glad tidings for all the girl power fans nurturing a nostalgia for the mid-nineties: a new West End show featuring the music of the Spice Girls is being produced by the woman behind the success of Mamma Mia!

Judy Craymer was approached a couple of times over the past few years but did not have time to work on it until now. Simon Fuller, one time manager of the Spice Girls and creator of the Idol franchise will also be involved, along with Geri Halliwell. According to the Daily Mail, however, they plan to leave Craymer to use her expertise in picking out the right writer, director and creative team.

Craymer explained: 'It's going to be fictional but various characters will have traits that will remind you of the group. It won't be their life story... but you would feel you were getting the sense of a story about a group of women that you knew was very much related to the music.' The show is expected to hit the London stage in two or three years and may well be called Viva Forever, the title of one of the Spice Girls' hits.

With successful songs like Who Do You Think You Are?, Mama and Wannabe all likely to be incorporated into the score, it'll be a surefire hit.
