Brit award nominees announced
By Eleanor Young on Tuesday 19 January 2010
The nominees have been announced, and it looks as though it'll be ladies night at the Brit Awards next month.
Leona Lewis, Lily Allen, Pixie Lott and Florence & the Machine lead the way in the Best Female Solo Artist category.
Both Pixie and Florence were nominated again for British Brakethrough Act, while the boys category was dominated by Robbie Williams, Paulo Nutini and Calvin Harris.
Meanwhile Cheryl Cole, nominated in just one category, will go up against X Factor protégés Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry for Best British Single.

The nominees were formally announced at the O2 arena yesterday night.
Noticeably absent from the honours list, however, was lovely lady Susan Boyle, who has achieved worldwide success overnight.
'The problem for the Brits is they're supposed to be a celebration of British music - and cool,' said one insider.
‘And, whatever anyone thinks of Susan Boyle, she certainly isn't cool,'

Winners will be announced at the award ceremony at Earl's Court on 16th February.
Who would you like to see win big at the Brits? Should Susan have been nominated? Let us know your choices in the comments box below.

Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry up for best single - really??? None of them deserve that at all. Surely it must be some Simon Cowell/X Factor deal??

Hasn't Pixie Lott done well?? Good on her, she's a genuine talent.

I think Susan Boyle should have been nominated for at least something. Never mind being cool, she definitely has the talent. And I suspect she's sold more records than Cheryl, Joe and Alexandra put together

No Susan Boyle, what a con. She has had more success, and sold more records that all Cheryl, Joe and Alexandra. These awards are not true Brit awards! I won't waste my time watching on tv, will just wait for Marie Claire to publish the results the next day!

No Question she should be included, can't we just have a category for the most exceptional singer? None of the above fit into that category!

I think Susan is much more famous then any of the three.. and Cheryl is really amazing at what she does. I never heard of these two ^^ O.o
