How to get into ...

Simon Cowell offers Victoria Beckham the chance to be an X-Factor star

By Eleanor Young  on Friday 15 January 2010

Just days after a very public backlash at Victoria Beckham's appearance on American Idol, Simon Cowell has offered her a more permanent job.

Ignoring criticism, sources say Simon made a call to the fashion superstar just hours after the end of the show asking her to make another appearance on the series.

It's believed the X-Factor boss has offered Mrs Beckahm four slots on the judging panel of his American series, at an eyewatering one million dollars per show.

At that price we don't see how she could turn it down!

And it could lead to something even better for the star.

It might well be used as a screen test with a view to a more permanent position, insiders have said.

‘Money was not discussed but as American TV judges go, the minimum she would be on in a four-show deal is $4million,' a source told the Daily Mirror.

‘However, if she was to become a permanent fixture, she could earn tens of millions.'

Would you tune in to watch Victoria on Americal Idol? Or do you think she's a bad role model? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

I don't think she's a great role model - a lot of teenagers watch those shows, and shes simply too thin

I would definitely watch her on American Idol! Or even American X Factor for that matter. And so would millions of others. She'd be great, the US just don't get her yet.
Comment by hayley on January 15 11:03

if she doesnt eat something wont be much of her left!
Comment by jean on January 15 12:36

I dont think she should appear on the X-Factor, the less teenagers see of her the better she is way to skinny and a very bad role model. Can she really bring much to the show anyway Cheryl and Danni outshine her
Comment by Rebecca on January 15 12:37

She's a bit of a freak isn't she? I guess she'd be a good role model if you want to know how to bag a famous/rich hubby when you are so inane. But please Simon, don't let her be on X Factor in GB. I will stop watching.
Comment by Tania on January 15 12:45

I watched Victoria Beckham the other day on American X Factor, although she is a very nice person, I do not think she has enough music experience to qualify as a judge. Her comments were very immature and she seemed to echo everything Kara said. She looked lost and uncomfortable most of the time, and was repetitive in what she said. I think there are loads more experienced judges out there. She should stick to fashion.
Comment by Hilary on January 15 12:46

she is thin but so are many other women who appear on TV, ANTM and so on..

being a role model is also about being well mannered, a good mother, and abot the overall behaviour..i personally think people don't give her enough credit; in spite of her 'harsh' image, she appears to be a really cool, fun person, i think it's great this opportunity came up
Comment by Joanna on January 15 12:51

I don't think Victoria Beckham is qualified to do anything that requires more than one functional brain cell.
Comment by missy on January 15 12:52

I watched her on American Idol and she was rubbish, she had nothing valuable to add and was so unnatural compared to the other judges. It seemed like she was trying to position herself so as to make sure the camera was getting her best angle...bad move Simon!
Comment by JK on January 15 13:02

Oh ladies, it's not her being obsessed with her body, it's you. If you dislike somebody because of being too fat - that would be called discrimination, if you dislike somebody because of being thin, - lots of women will happily join you. Well do you find it completely normal?
Her weight, after all, is her own business, and are there any weight regulations when you can say 'too thin'?
Comment by incminc on January 15 13:20

I think she's a great role model - fashion designer, entreprenuer - she told brand Beckham global a highly sucessful women and manges to juggle her family life at the same time. As for what she eat - at least she is honest about being insecure and eating only small amounts of salad/fish/veg etc!!
Comment by Sally on January 15 13:34

I would most def watch it she would pull in the viewers for sure i know she could not sing very well herself but then again so what she has an endearing quality that i think people like and i do wish they would not give her such a hard time about what she looks like, lets be honest all the top models are just as thin they dont get half the stick that she gets let her just do her thing but look at her positves her clothes line is so popular that all the celebs are buying them so she has got star quality and good luck to vic you go girl...

I've always admired Victoria Beckham and thought she did very well on American Idol. She looked a bit more comfortable and natural on the second day, and I would expect her to get better and better as she got used that role. She seems to have a great sense of humour - dry and very British - which may take Americans a while to get used to, but I can totally understand Simon Cowell wanting her on his shows. I'm quietly hoping Cheryl Cole is on the permanent American Idol panel but would love to see VB as well, if only as a guest judge.
Comment by Maria on January 15 14:48

I WOULD WATCH VICTORIA ANY DAY ANY WERE SHES GREAT ROLE MODEL N SHE LOOK STUNING.SIMON IS NOT STUPID SHE WILL BRING A BIGER AUDIENCE ANY WERE IN THE WORLD.....SHE DIDNT BAG A RICH N FAMOUS HUBBY,SHE WAS ALREADY FAMOUS N RICH AT THAT TIME.SHE NEVER BEEN UNPLESANT IN PUBLIC LIKE OTHER SO CALLED CELEBRETIES.CANT WAIT....
Comment by RUI ABREU on January 15 15:36

Well..Vic has done well for herself thus far and is pleasant..I have yet to read of her slanging anyone off tho she gets it herself!!
She gets on with the various career moves and is discreet regarding her family and private matters which is a lot more than most of them do..Give her a chance...
Comment by anon on January 15 18:27

I found her rather superficial and definitely not role model material, far too thin and somewhat inane, but she was very kind with her comments, by contrast to the other judges, who are rather rude in the way they snigger or laugh out loud and make fun of people who are trying, sometimes very badly, to better their lives
Comment by bobby on January 15 19:28

I find her very bland, she has nothing constructive to say and her judgement of talent is questionable. I'm not interested in seeing her as a regular judge.
Comment by angelicjulie on January 15 20:07

I do not know why ANYONE would want to watch her on anything! She is a shallow, no brain. Don`t be taken in by her `Collections` others design, she just gets paid to put her name on them. with her feet and wasted frame, the less impressionable youngsters see of her, the better!!
Comment by Lizzie on January 15 20:35

VB has enough money, why not give the job to someone who needs it more and knows more about singing! Someone who is actually a good singer rather than mediocre like VB

Comment by Hugs on January 16 18:27

Ive always loved victoria i think shes great! After all what did cheryl do- married a footballer n got fake hair, mimed to a song n shes now the "nations sweetheart" so y so many horrible comments about victoria!!
Comment by lucy on January 17 21:26

why oh why has Cowell hired this air-head? She has no talent in any area that she's turned her hand to and that's been widely recognised so what can she contribute? You wonder how she can command such payments for giving her worhtless opinion. It's a disgrace especially in the current climate. Certainly not a role model for me or my girls? As Tania said, if you want to trap a footballer then she's your woman! Get rid of her! The Americans are not as stupid as we think. It's not that they don't get her, they just don't know what she's really achieved! Thanks for the rant!
Comment by jane on January 18 09:39

I saw her on Pop Idol this weekend and while not completely stupid, it was obvious she didn't feel confident enough to comment on anyone's singing ability. She could only comment on their 'look' or style saying things Also she was nice, but presumably because she is frightened to make enemires of the public that have created her. She knows she is a girl next door who has tried very hard to look and behave as she perceives a celebrity should. Just the fact that she has so much press coverage makes fools of the average trash magazine reading British public and if the Americans fall for it too then we are truly. In her favour she is stylish though her clothes are actually created by Roland Mouret.
Comment by elizabeth barnett on January 18 13:26

NO - I WOULDN.T BOTHER TO WATCH THE SHOW ANYMORE... SHE WOULDN'T MAKE A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR ANYTHING.... THE ONLY REASON HE IS HAVING HER ON THERE .... BECAUSE SHE IS SKINNY AND HE LIKES SKINNY WOMEN (YOU ONLY HAVE TO LOOK AT HIS PREVIOUS GIRLFRIENDS).... AND ALSO IT WILL MAKE HIM LOOK GOOD ( BEING RATHER STUPID) AND MORE POWERFUL. HE DOESN'T NORMALLY LIKE WOMEN HAVING AN OPINION. AND PROBABLY THE PRODUCERS OF THE SHOW (BRITISH) THOUGHT IS A GOOD IDEA TO HAVE ANOTHER BRIT ON THE PANEL... BUT SOMEONE WHO IS HIGH PROFILE AND OVER THERE! (THANK GOD - HOPEFULLY SHE WON'T APPEAR ON THE X-FACTOR OVER HERE!). AMERICA CAN KEEP HER.
