Russell Brand and Katy Perry engaged

Katy Perry gave her glittering engagement ring its public debut this weekend, as she faced the cameras with fiancé Russell Brand.

The loved-up pair enjoyed lunch in North London on Saturday, when the 25-year-old bride-to-be gave waiting photographers a first look at the diamond band. Brand proposed with the sparkler on New Year's Eve, at the exclusive Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur, India.

A member of staff revealed: 'We set a table in a garden with candles everywhere. They arrived in a horse and carriage with a glass of champagne and we served them dinner.

'At midnight they enjoyed fireworks while sitting on an elephant, which Mr Brand specially requested. Then they were taken to the Mughal Garden - which was decorated by flowers and candlelight. 'Mr Brand had given his butler the diamond ring to hide among the flowers. Miss Perry found it, he proposed, and she immediately said 'Yes,' ther source explained.

The £30,000 two-carat ring was picked out by Brand himself.

It is believed that like their whirlwind romance, the pair won't wait around long to wed, with friends speculating that they could be Mr and Mrs Brand within months.

i think its nice that her ring is more simple / elegant, rather than some over sized rock that could take somebody's eye out like so many celebs opt for. shows he's taking it more seriously, and i wish them luck!

So pleased for them, they make a fab couple. I love the fact that they don't conform to the Hollywood look a likes. They are just Katy an Russell. He's so hot.

I really want this to be real but I can't help but feel it's all a bit (ok VERY!) contrived. Once they get enough media attention to keep their careers going in the US (him) and the UK (her) they will probably 'break up' or something... Too bad though as they really do look good together, don't they? What fabulous looking kiddies these two would have! (still secretly hoping it's on the level)
