Lady Gaga's £52k bathtub, as tour reports million pound losses

By Lucy Hutchings  on Wednesday 6 January 2010

Lady Gaga: The Fame Monster tour

She notoriously has an elaborate taste for fashion, but it appears Lady Gaga also has a penchant for extravagant homewares, shelling out £52,000 on a bathtub - but it was all in the name of performance, of course.

The Lady snapped up the pricey tub for a single appearance on the X Factor last year, and now her habit for expensive props is reportedly hitting her wallet a little too hard.

The Sun reports today that the singer's Fame Monster tour, which hits the UK in February, is registering losses of £2million to date, despite all tickets being sold out.

A source told the paper: 'The gigs are losing money hand over fist because they've spent a fortune on pricey costumes, technical equipment and elaborate set designs. She spent £500,000 on one stage alone.'

Her spokesman added: 'I can't comment on figures but it wouldn't be a surprise. GaGa puts everything into her live shows and she doesn't care about the financial side of things. I wouldn't want to be her accountant.'

Clearly what the Lady wants, the Lady gets!

Oh this is completely ridiculous! £50,000 on a giant bathtub?! Hasn't she been bankrupt a few times before? Maybe now we know why!

I love Gaga, but this is outrageous really - she needs to sort her spending out! How stupidly extravagant.

The problem is Lady Gaga is an artist in every sense of the word and obviously money is no object when it comes to having things how she wants them. I do wonder how long she can go on spending so much on props and costumes for her appearances (although I believe she designs and makes a lot of her own costumes) even with her current massive popularity both in the USA and here in the UK. I also now get an inkling as to why her Cardiff gig in the UK is going to cost over £100 per ticket? Much as I like Lady Gaga I would not pay that much to see any artist, no matter how good.
