Hollywood actress Brittany Murphy passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack in her Los Angeles home.

Tributes have been flooding in from Tinsel Town's finest since the shock news broke yesterday, including from the 32-year-old's former boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, who Tweeted, 'See you on the other side kid... 2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon.'

According to reports, it was Sharon who found Brittany unconscious in the shower, and made the 911 call at 8am on Sunday morning. Despite the best efforts of medical staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center, where she was taken by ambulance, she was pronounced dead at 10:04 am.

A neighbour who saw her being wheeled on a stretcher from her home, told People.com: 'One paramedic was still working on her. First, I couldn't even tell that it was Brittany that was on the stretcher. It looked like an older woman. Brittany was completely white and her face was covered with a mask. You could tell that something horrible had happened.'

Brittany's rep, Nicole Perna, said in a statement yesterday afternoon, 'In this time of sadness, the family thanks you for your love and support. It is their wish that you respect their privacy.'

An autopsy is likely to happen today, the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office said, although they noted, 'Foul play is not suspected at this time because there were no outward signs of trauma or other injuries.'

Murphy leaves behind her husband, Simon Monjack, who she married in May 2007 in a traditional Jewish ceremony, after a whirlwind romance.

The couple's marriage had been plagued by split rumours of late, with Monjack forced to speak out earlier this year in defiance of the gossip, telling People magazine: 'We still don't understand what happened. It's made us laugh, it's made us cry, but it's made us stronger.'

With a string of big-screen hits under her belt, including 8 Mile, opposite Eminem, Just Married and Sin City, Brittany also has a number of films currently in post-production, with release dates as yet unscheduled.

She left the set of her latest movie, just last month, amid talk she'd been fired, however, at the time, her rep insisted: 'She was not nor has she ever been fired from any job big or small.' Her people instead claimed it was '[due] to creative differences Ms Murphy and the production mutually parted ways'.
