Emma Bunton to join Dancing On Ice judging team

By Helen Lamont  on Wednesday 16 December 2009

Marie Claire celebrity news: Children's Champions Awards

Ex-Spice Girl Emma Bunton will appear as a judge on ITV1's Dancing On Ice when the show re-starts in January.

She will replace West End star Ruthie Henshall, whose comments last series were considered to be a little lack-lustre.

Sitting alongside her on the 2010 judging panel will be familiar faces Robin Cousins, Karen Barber, Jason Gardiner and Nicky Slater.

Like Ruthie, Emma has no skating experience - but she does know what it's like to take part in a talent show, after she and dance partner Darren Bett made it to the semi-final of Strictly Come Dancing in 2006.

33 year-old, mum-of-one Emma, who is also a radio DJ, is delighted to be part of the ice dance competition. She exclaimed, 'I'm so excited to be joining a show that I have been a huge fan of since it began - and to be working with Torvill and Dean'!

I can't wait to get started!'

A spokesman for ITV said that Emma's experience with the Spice Girls would make her an ideal judge.

The contestant line-up for the new series has not been announced yet.

But those taking part are rumoured to include Boyzone singer Mikey Graham, comedian Bobby Davro, Corrie star Danny Young, Hollyoaks actor Kieron Richardson, Gary Lucy from The Bill, and Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills.

Oh look, it's the Alesha to Strictly and the Cheryl to X Factor. I like Emma though, so hopefully she'll do well.
