Music newcomer Ellie Goulding wins the Critics' Choice BRIT Award
By Helen Lamont on Thursday 10 December 2009
She'd better start getting ready for one of the glitziest nights of the year, because 22 year-old Ellie Goulding is off to The BRIT Awards.
The music newcomer has been named as the recipient of The BRITs' Critics' Choice Award.
And although she's yet to set the charts alight, the accolade suggests Ellie could achieve great things in the future.
Previous winners of the Critics' Choice BRIT include last year's success story Florence And The Machine, as well as soul queen Adele. This year's runners-up were Dephine and Marina and The Diamonds.
Ellie, who is from Hereford, has only released one single, Under The Sheets, so far, and has made an appearance on Later with Jools Holland. Her music is a mix of folk and electronica.
She was spotted performing in a Canterbury Christ Church University talent show and signed to Polydor Records.
The singer was delighted with the news of her success.
She said, ‘When I found out, I had a little squeal, I had a little cry and I had a little fall down'.
‘I didn't believe it at first, but now it's sunk in I am delighted and honoured to be given this award.
‘I couldn't be more happy and thankful to everyone right now.'
Ellie Gould will perform and the BRIT launch at IndigO2 on Monday 18 January, before picking up her prize at The BRIT Awards 2010 on Tuesday 16 February.
Her next single, Starry-Eyed, will be released in February with an album to follow in March.
