Robert Pattinson fans fight back against paparazzi
Rex Features
Fans of Twilight superstar Robert Pattinson have mounted a giant online protest against paparazzi intrusion into his private life.
This comes after shots emerged of the star leaving the Hard Rock Café in Hollwood over the weekend, amid an absolute frenzy of paparazzi and reporters.

RPatz made a dash from the door shielding his face with his hands, and was quickly bundled into a waiting car by burly minders.
The smouldering star shot to worldwide fame, after the unprecedented success of the Twilight Saga.
But since then he has faced constant harassment from paparazzi watching his every move in an attempt to catch some sneaky off-duty shots.
Now loyal fans are fighting back in a bid to try and stop the star from being bothered during his down time.
In a joint effort from a number of fansites, more than 600 fans have posted picures of themselves with their hands covering their faces, imitating Rob's recent forced pose.
‘We want the paps to know that we don't want to see pics like these, so stop taking them,' a statement on one website said.
‘Stop invading his private life. Enough is enough. Because no person deserves this, celebrity or not.
‘There are limits and you have gone too far. He doesn't want this, neither do we!'

Mr Pattinson has just finished promoting the latest Twilight film New Moon, and has already started shooting the third instalment, Eclipse.
So with two - maybe three - films left to go, let's hope the campaign works.
What do you think about this new campaign? Has paparazzi intrusion into Rob's life gone too far, or is it all part of the package? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

Look i love the twilight books didn't like the first movie thought the acting could have been way better and don't see the apeal everyone has for Rob but i do agree that the paps are invading his private life and it has to stop its sick and no one wants this poor guy harassed everytime he goes out the door so just leave him alone so he can at least have a life outside of the movies. He doesn't want this, neither do we
Comment by Kat on December 08 11:02
Enough of mistreating his personal life, your privacy, we do not want pictures like this, we will fight to put an end to these publications.
Brazilian, Fan.
Comment by Karina on December 08 11:40
it's not part of the package, do you one take pic of him? take when he wants, when his doing a press about a movie or something,
but just put a camera on his face when he is just trying to get out of a show, a dinner?? no away
that's his private life, let him go!!
If he doesn't want this , neither do me!
Comment by MAIARA on December 08 11:46
no human being should be unable to leave their home for fear of being harassed, celebrity or not.
Comment by loren on December 08 11:52
I love pictures of Rob so I'm conflicted. However, he's not an attention whore like Lindsay Lohan so the papz really have no right to intrude on his private life. He's not trying to make a public spectacle of himself. He's just trying to live his life and you can't do that with cameras taking your every move. As he said in an ET interview, "that's not living your life, that's posing for pictures".
Comment by Chris on December 08 12:00
The way he and Kristen are hounded by the paparazzi is disgusting. It's one thing to take pics when they're working but they should not be bothered when they are off duty. It's appalling that they can't even arrive and leave together when they go for dinner or to a a concert because it turns into a scrum and becomes a danger to their personal safety. No other celeb has to put up with this level of intrusion and it needs to stop. Their private life is theit own business.
Comment by Lisa on December 08 12:12
Yes I do think enough is enough. He's only an actor trying to do his job - not public property. He shouldn't have to be confined to a hotel becuase he'll get hounded if he comes out.
Comment by Ella on December 08 12:14
If it was just a matter of a few pictures it wouldn't be so bad, but to have so many get so close and spew words at him hoping for a reaction...if people did that to you when you walked out of a building you'd call the police. It should not be allowed to happen to anyone. Celebrity or not.
Comment by Chris on December 08 12:18
I admire the fans for their stand but the truth is that neither the papz, or the tabloids give a toss about Robert Pattinson or the fans - it's all about money. If fans don't want to see these pictures, stop buying the magazines which print them. If there's no market there's no profit and it will stop. Unfortunately, though, I don't think this will happen, because there will always be selfish, rabid so-called fans who will eat up anything with Rob's picture, no matter how unhappy or harrassed he looks, and want to read anything.
Comment by LizzieMac09 on December 08 12:20
this isnt fair. i'm huge fan of rob but neither me nor any other fans'll ever want his personal life ruined like that. i hate the way they follow him everywhere. they HAVE to STOP IT!!they have no right to invade his private life like that!!!i'm ok with watching rob less. but i dont want see his photos this way.
Comment by nishat on December 08 12:39
The campaign is true! Leave the guy alone! He will freak out if it can not be normal. Treat him with respect is the minimum of decency that the PAPs should have! Remember what happened to our Princess Dayane ...

I totally agree. He so deserves his privacy. They need to back off and leave him alone!!!!!!
Comment by Vicky on December 08 13:43
I have never been prouder of the fans. I don't buy the mags that print lies, and I will not look at photos where he or Kristen Stewart are being harassed. Fan sites should never show these pics and mags should never pay for them.
Comment by Cynthia on December 08 13:52
RESPECT ROB! IT IS MORE THEN A THOUSAND PICTURES NOW, OF PEOPLE POSING WITH THEIR HANDS COVERING THERE FACES LIKE ROB'S PICTURE. WE WANT THIS TO STOP! HE IS A PERSON LIKE THE REST OF US! CELEBRITY OR NOT, NO ONE WANTS THEIR PICTURE TAKEN EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF EVERY SINGLE DAY. HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF IT WAS DONE TO YOU?? WE LOVE YOU ROB AND WE ARE ALWAYS HERE TO BACK YOU UP!
Comment by Lindsey on December 08 14:21
The papz were at the venue before the concert started. They aren't stupid. And actors' reps are known to call the papz themselves to get coverage for their client. Not saying that's what happened here but the agents are also part of the problem, if it's a celeb like Rob. For many they rely on the papz to keep them in the news. And for what it's worth, Rob was also pictured and filmed laughing as he got in the car with his friends. The new law 1/1/10 hopefully will help.
Comment by Kara on December 08 14:22
It is not part of the package, the one thing that concerns me is that with this new un-tasteful picture, many fans has stated they do not like Robert being photographed this way. Gudos.. But you can't object to one pap pic and promote the rest. Saying it's ok for this pap pic cause it's a great shot of him, but this one we object too cause he looks sad/bad or what not. There is a line of becoming a hypocrite this way. Either promote that you dislike all pap pics, or leave the campaign alone. Paps will not stop if the demand is there, people linking to gossip rags, posting pap pics, linking rag stories. If you truly dislike pap pics. Stop promoting them period! ALL of them!
Comment by Sharie on December 08 14:42
Look, fans might be crazy ppl but we're soo not interested in seeing wat Rob eats in a resto, man!! There's a limit to how much you get into a person's face!! N wat package?? He never asked the paps to run after him.. N he definitely didn't know that's wat would happen after Twilight!! do u think ne of them would have done it if they knew they'd have to go through this?? Its not fair, nt at all fair.. so STOP harrassing them.. Ur wasting ur own preciuos time doing this stuff..
Comment by Devika on December 08 15:00
I feel that Robert and all other celebrities should be left alone when they are going about their daily lives outside of their professional obligations. I admit I think Robert is great and I do look at pictures of him, but I'd rather see a picture he's actually happy to have taken than one of him hiding, besides the obvious reason that he looks better when he's happy, but also I don't really care were he was getting coffee or how he looks leaving the airport after a long flight and I avoid looking paparazzi shots whenever possible.
I don't think in any way that this kind of invasion of privacy should just be accepted as a part and parcel of what goes with being a celebrity. At the end of the day they are all just regular people that do their jobs well, although very publicly, but they are no different from your teachers, doctors, accountants, authors, chefs, firemen, policemen... and the list goes on, just regular people that are passionate about what they do and do it well, but you don't see cameras stuck in their faces every time they sneeze!
Comment by Levona on December 08 15:29
Celebrities should expect to lose a lil privacy - they are stars after all and people like a bit of escapisim, but there is a limit - or should be. Robert, as well as all celebs, have a right to a private life.
Comment by Haley on December 08 17:20
We love ROB and don't want him harassed, chased and intruded on everytime he leaves his home or any place. PLEASE STOP THE PAPARAZZI!
Comment by @ShanStamps on December 08 17:38
I completely agree with LizzyMac09 and Kara. Yes, nobody deserves that kind of treatment, but let us not forget that there is a tremendously huge market out there for Robert Pattinson and anything Twilight related. I applaud the fans & blogs that have put all these energies and time to do something like this, but it's also and mainly their huge obsession with RPatz and Twilight that makes papparazi try to get anything they can, & considering this is their livelyhood, they will. Fans & bloggers dont complain when the pics are different, ie. the KOL concert with Kristen & Rob, or when they were caught holding hands in Paris, just to give a couple of examples. Yes, i do agree those pictures are kind of horrible, but where were his bodyguards? He does know that this is what happens? Remember NYC while filming "Remember Me"? When he almost got run over by a cab? And that time it wasn't becuase of the papz, it was the fans he was trying to run away from. Of course, it was down-played because without fans there's no market, but that time he was as freaked out and horrified as Im sure he was this time. I think it is kind of hypocritical that the fans blame just the papparazzi, it is because of the fans and the huge and worldwide market they've created with their insatiable obsession that leads to all these. There's nothing like Twilight fans, and the size of their obsession is the size of intrusion RPatz will suffer. You guys want it stop? So stop obsessing with him, stop idolizing him if you want him to be treated like a regular human being, stop trying to know and track his every move in magazines and blogs. One last thing, wouldnt be great if all these fans looked at pictures of starving kids in Africa and put so much effort and time in trying to stop that as well?
Comment by Mari on December 08 17:58
Hey I'm a mom and i love the books and the movie but what these papz are doing they would not like someone else to do this to them. He deserves his privacy and truly i dont want to see pics like those from the cafe especially the one with the papz on the ground trying to get a shot. And it's true he doesn't want all this attention, let the man be able to enjoy his life.
Comment by Anisa on December 08 18:04
For sure paps have gone toooooooo far. I live in France, and here this kind of behavior is not allowed by the law. It's such a shame to see Mister Pattinson like that... Just in case no one noticed that : HE IS NOT A GOD !!! he just is an young actor !!! So STOP HARRASING HIM !!!
From France.
Comment by frenchie on December 08 18:32
I think Rob is precious but feel so sorry for him. that picture of him leaning against the door in his hotel was so sad. I love seeing his pics but come on people, let the guy go to a concert or out to eat without following him around! Let him have some private time.
Comment by Garde on December 08 18:35
Since growing up in Southern Calif amidst famous people I think the paps just need to be giving a limit on when and where they should take pictures, and give the boy a rest.
Comment by Patti on December 08 20:45
Lets just say if I ever see a picture of Rob hounded again I would never buy the said magazine or any others, and I hope every other fan does the same!
Comment by Alexia on December 08 21:55
He shouldn't have to deal with this. Get the paps away!
Comment by Georgia on December 09 02:17
Respect RPattz.
Respect Rob's Rights.
I do want to know what food he enjoys or what he likes to do in his spare time or what book he is reading, but ONLY when he is willing to share, like in an interview or a TV program. When he signed the movie contract, he did not sign to be invaded by paps or to have his privacy abused.
He does not want this, neither do we.
Comment by aloyslove on December 09 06:20
Im a huge fan of Rob I think he is a fantastic actor but enough is enough he maybe a star but I'll put money on it if the papz taking the pic's were in his shoes I'm sure they wouldn't like it give the poor guy a break and leave him to do what he loves and what millions of people enjoy him doing. if he doesn't want his pic taken then I dont want to see it.
Comment by stacey on December 09 09:05
Evereybody deserves their privacy, their right to their personal lives. He should have right to got to places he wants to go without constant hunting and stalking by paparazzis.
He doesn`t want this, neither do we.
Comment by Kylliki on December 09 09:10
He knows he is going to be chased all around in LA by photogs based on past experience. The solution is - go to London. This won't happen there as he doesn't have the nutty fans in the UK that are rampant in the US/Canada so photogs won't be interested. 1000 fans with masks on is nothing compared to his fanbase in the US. If he chooses to prance around LA despite seemingly having no actual work there, he should expect this. And if he's dumb enough to buy a home there, then he's going to deserve any future problems. He's obviously not very intelligent or very adult.
