Danyl Johnson wins X Factor bust-up with Simon Cowell
By Louise O'Connell on Friday 20 November 2009
After drama teacher Danyl Johnson stormed out of the X Factor yesterday and threatened to quit the show, Simon Cowell has backed down and will allow Danyl to sing Careless Whisper.
We reported yesterday on the big X Factor bust-up between Danyl Johnson and Simon Cowell. And it was clearly a story you felt strongly about.
Danyl had his heart set on singing Wham's classic Careless Whisper but Simon put his foot down and refused to let him sing the hit, insisting that Danyl sing George Michael's Praying For Time.
After a heated argument Danyl blew his top and stormed out of rehearsals and ran off down Battersea High Street in South London.
Thankfully, Danyl returned to the studio and after crisis talks with Simon Cowell Danyl was allowed to sing Careless Whisper.
Simon eventually backed down and let Danyl have his own way - unheard of for tough-talking X Factor judge Simon! Simon brushed off the row as just a 'storm in a teacup,' and blamed the 27-year-old's meltdown on the pressure of the competition. He said, 'The frustration got to him and he boiled over but when we talked it through he was as good as gold.'
'It was always going to be one of those two songs and it turns out Danyl had set his heart on the other one.'
It seems the diva strop paid off for Danyl who is now allowed to sing Careless Whisper on Saturday. Simon confirmed, 'Danyl is going to sing Careless Whisper on Saturday and it is an incredible version. We love it,' he said.

Well I will be intriqued..no one like Wham singing it..
Might be crafty..if he sings it badly..then Simon will say ..it was down to him and in reverse if it goes well....then ..yes..he was right to kickup...
I suspect ...Simon is losing a lot of interest in this show..as he has othe business ideas going on..probably give his judgeship to an associate to carry on ..maybe? He always looks round at the audience to see whats what and then he decides..if u watch him.

So spoilt brat Danyl got his own way eh?! Hopefully he gets voted out on Saturday so his tantrum won't have mattered anyway :)

I really don't think it should matter which song he sings, it is the singing that matters. I stopped watching after the Jedward debacle and hope they go so I can see the end.

He is not a spoilt brat. I've realised now that you shouldn't listen to what the media say about people and should make your own judgements. I think he was right to disagree with Simon, after all it is his future hanging in the balance. Danyl has been completely misinterpreted all along. He has never been cocky at all, just a confident stage performer and probably a little shy when not performing. What is wrong with that. The problem that the other judges have had with Danyl is that they were jealous that they didn't have him in their category. If you look at the fantastic 1st audition that Danyl did, Cheryl said that she would have him in her category any day. It's been tactics all along to make the public not like him!!!
Go Danyl, you've definitely got my vote and you're the only one really with the X Factor left in the competition.

Call me a cynic, but how do we even know about this so-called 'hissy fit'? Because Simon Cowell wants everyone to watch the show on Saturday to see what song Danyl sings. If there had been a genuine bust-up between the two of them, we would never find out about it. The behind-the-scenes headlines are what makes The X Factor so unmissable. The fact that people (including me) are even commenting on this story means Simon Cowell had played a blinder.

Well, i think Danyl sang it really badly and should have listened to Simon (who usually knows best)! He shouted the song out rather than actually sing it. AWFUL!!!

Didn't read about this until today, 23rd, but funnily enough I said on Sat pm that I thought Praying for Time would've been a better record for Danyl to sing. Really don't think he sang Careless Whisper well at all. A bit flat...

I think Danyl has been very victimised by the panel, he is not at all cocky or arrogant just a man with a passion for music. I think the judges are the arrogant ones who have very little talent between, especially the women. I will always support him. From the very beginning of the show his talent was exceptional and I am frequently appalled by the rudeness of the panel ( not Simon Cowell).
