Soundmen ordered to drown out Jedward vocals

John & Edward Grimes - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

Love them or hate them, X Factor twins John and Edward have caused an almighty stir in recent weeks.

Each show they've surprised us with bizarre dance moves and mad styling, but many have accused the terrible twosome of lowering the standard of the competition.

And now it has been revealed that X Factor bosses ordered soundmen to drown out the twins' singing - with backing vocals!

Last night X Factor chiefs revealed that every act gets ‘technical support'.

But it seems that some get more of a helping hand than others.

A show insider said: ‘Every week session singers record backing tracks to some songs.

‘But soundmen are told to turn down the levels of the twins' mics so their vocals are mostly covered by the backing singers. Often mics are so low the twins' singing would be barely audible.‘

The source also added that Jedward's Saturday performance of Queen's Under Pressure was lowered to a ‘ridiculous level', only being raised for the rapping part.

No doubt this news will leave fans angry, after thousands complained when the public voted to keep the pair in.

But it seems John and Edward are ratings gold, and with Mr Cowell in charge, we can't help thinking they're here to stay.

Do you think it's time for the twins to go? Or are there any Jedward fans out there? Let us know your thoughts in the comments box below.

GET RID of these twins, no talent can not sing what the hell is the xfactor coming to, its about the best singer and so far they have all gone.
Its not about the judges and who will win, they should consider the real talent and stop playing off each other

Makes sense to me - their singing is terrible, so why would they want to highlight that? Especially when Simon caused such a furore over his decision to keep them in the show. Of course they're going to drown them out with backing vocals.
Comment by naomi on November 17 12:43

Oh for goodness sake... this has gone TOO far now. Someone get them OUT!!!
Comment by Kate on November 17 12:45

I don't care for Jedward myself but accept that everyone else might want to keep them in. I think the British public should be offered a fair and comparable appraisal of their talents however, if they're voting to keep them in. ITV should be reprimanded if they are adjusting the sound as alleged.

John and Edward are fantastic. Go boys. Obviously others agree or they would be in bottom two every week.
Comment by chris on November 17 12:53

We need the twins they make us happy and they are lovely young men, they've cheered us all up which can't be a bad thing. I love 'em and hope they're here to stay
Comment by susan on November 17 13:03

TALENT CONTEST??? MY A**E JOHN AND EDWARD AS MUCH AS THEY MIGHT BE NICE GUYS CANNOT SING !!!!COWELL YOUR A JOKE KEEPING THEM IN.. WHO IN HELL WOULD LISTEN TIO THEM ON THE RADIO IF THEY WERE TO WIN ?
Comment by AMANDA on November 17 13:04

When is this farce going to stop, by keeping John and Edward in they are making a mockery of all the hard work the people who can sing, do. and when is some one gonna tell Louie that its time he took his childish bitching and retired. Let someone who knows what they are taliking about do the job.
Comment by ex X Factor fan on November 17 13:08

Jedward don't have the X factor so why are they still in the show? I feel sorry for the lads they are being exploited by Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh who are ultimately the winners you only have to look at their lifestyles!!
Comment by Chris on November 17 13:11

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest. On the X Factor live tours they do exactly the same thing with the acts that really can't sing and sometimes you can hardly hear them at all.

However doing it while they are still in competition with the other contestants is out of order. They may all get technical assistance but that should be set at the same level for each act.....i.e not very much at all.

Comment by Sam Wilson on November 17 13:14

I have boycotted the show - enough is enough - I like reality shows but they are just that reality and there's nothing real about the x factor. It seems that as long as Simon's bank account expands then that's all that matters. The idea behind the show is to find the x factor, the tintin lookalikeys have neither the x or the y or any other factor.
Comment by Sarah on November 17 13:21

They must go!! They seem like lovely lads and have had more than enough of a platform to be used i othert ares such as presenting if people like them so much. They cannot sing and it is going to ruin the future of X factor and its credibility as a singing talent competition.
Comment by Sharon ormrod on November 17 14:00

I agree they can't sing but I find them totally entertaining! I also admire their attitude for taking all the knocks they get and still coming out and giving it everything they've got. Makes it difficult - they obviously should be out based on their singing alone but I can't wait to see them perform every week. SO....leave it to the public.
Comment by sheber on November 17 14:25

they boys ought to save their own face and walk out. Surely they know they're rubbish and having seen off 2 of the best acts in the comp over the last 2 weeks its unfair of them to remain in the comp. I'm not a fan of any of the contestants but until the twins are removed I won't vote, it's a waste of money as the whole thing is clearly being rigged. However it's done it's a scam, and there are laws against that..........
Comment by Mags on November 17 14:48

I find it hard to believe that anybody actually likes X Factor, as it's appalling, naff, embarrassing rubbish. So what do people really expect from the contestants? Jedward just about sum it up in my opinion...
Comment by Isobel on November 17 15:11

Enough is enough! I don't want to hear each week how nice these boys are! This is a singing contest and the fact is that they can't sing. Am getting bored of the X-Factor now 'cos alot of the talent has already gone. Louis Walsh has lost the plot if he thinks we want to hear this rubbish on the radio.
Comment by Tracy on November 17 15:34

They can't sing!! Whatever anyone may think of them, they should not be in this particular show. I have stopped watching now and hope they go so I can watch the finish. It's a farce with them in.
Comment by marybecs on November 17 15:58

I've stopped watching X Factor since Simon failed to take the chance at getting the twins out. Contestants are being kept in just because they are cute or entertaining, like the twins and Lloyd. None of them can sing and would hardly sell any records, They will end up like Leon Jackson. Lets hope that like Rhyddian, the ones who can actually sing will go on to do well. It will serve Simon right if the twins do go on to win. I won't be watching it next year if they bother to do any more after this farce.
Comment by Judith on November 17 18:57

Absolutely love them! They're the only innovative act in the show this year and it would be a much poorer place without them. No-one would bother to watch. Hope they stay till the end.
Comment by Alison on November 17 19:25

john and Edward can't sing, they can't dance, they are like some crazy puppets that are out of control. Get them off!!!
Comment by Kathy on November 17 19:47

Can we get one thing straight here, which people are forgetting. X-Factor is NOT a singing competition, its an Entertainment show.
