Man charged with Cindy Crawford blackmail attempt

A German man has been charged with attempting to extort $100,000 from Cindy Crawford and her entrepreneur husband Rande Gerber.

According to authorities, Edis Kayalar claimed that he had a photo depicting Cindy's then seven-year-old daughter bound to a chair and gagged, and threatened to sell the photo to the media if they didn't meet his demands.

The photograph was reportedly taken by the couple's former nanny, and shows the girl strapped to a chair with a gag in her mouth, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt.

Cindy and Rande were completely unaware of the existence of such a photo, but the daughter has since told her parents that her nanny took it as part of a ‘cops and robbers game,' according to authorities.

Mr Kayalar, 26, has been charged with one count of extortion, but not yet been arrested. If convicted he could face up to two years in prison.

The nanny, whose name hasn't been released, has not been charged.

Cindy's spokesperson Annett Wolf, issued a statement saying: ‘Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford intend to pursue any and all available legal action against anyone who aids the perpetrator in the distribution or sale of the photograph of their daughter.'
