Twilight Director reveals Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart romance

Robert Pattinson Kristen Stewart - Asked out 'a lot' on set, Twilight, Eclipse - Marie Claire

They might have been trying to keep those romance rumours at bay, but Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has stated in a new interview that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are in a relationship.

Speaking to Time Magazine, Ms Hardwicke told of how her leading lady, Stewart, who plays Bella in the hit vampire flick, had waited to start dating her co-star.

'In terms of what Kristen told me directly, it didn't happen on the first movie. Nothing crossed the line while on the first film,' she explained.

As for when then long-rumoured romance did heat up and she revealed, 'I think it took a long time for Kristen to realize, OK, I've got to give this a go and really try to be with this person.'

Hardwicke added that she realised there was an instant chemistry between Pattinson, 23 and Stewart, 19, but discouraged the pair from starting a relationship.

'After I cast him, I told Rob, Don't even think about having a romance with her. She's under 18. You will be arrested.'

The Twilight promotional trail has now moved onto Spain, where Pattinson, Stewart and Taylor Lautner hit the red carpet last night in Madrid last night. See all the pictures here.

I think Catherine is just speculating. I don't know why she's talking about this in the first place when the couple obviously wants to keep their lives private.
