How to get into ...

Thousands of fans complain, but did Simon Cowell fix the X Factor?

By Eleanor Young  on Tuesday 10 November 2009

Simon Cowell - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

In the latest controversy to hit the X Factor, fans have been complaining in their thousands over Saturday night's show, which saw Lucie Jones sent home ahead of Jedward.

Viewers have blasted Simon Cowell's decision to refer his vote back to the public, and ITV has received an astonishing 3000 complaints about the show.

Simon, who has previously described the twins as ‘vile', once joked he would leave the country if they won.

But love them or hate them, the terrible twosome have had viewers captivated with their mad on-screen antics.

John and Edward - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

Now Mr Cowell's U-turn has led some to suspect a fix, with rumours circulating that knew the public had voted against welsh warbler, Lucie, when he referred the vote back.

TV watchdog Ofcom has also received 50 complaints, and is poised to launch an investigation.

A record 16.6 millions viewers tuned in to watch the show over the weekend, but not enough to save Lucie it seems.

Talking about his decision, Simon said, ‘I know there will be lots of people who will criticise the decision to let it to go to deadlock, but I honestly could not have predicted the way public voting had gone - I never get told the voting figures.'

But this has led many to wonder whether this is still a real talent competition, or if the ratings war has overtaken the search for real singers.

We want to know YOUR thoughts? Was there a fix? Or are the public really behind Jedward? Let us know what you think in the comments box below.

Simon Cowell should be made to retract his decision on allowing last week's show to go to the public vote. He has said since day one that John and Edward can't sing and that the XFactor is a singing competition - why then did he not vote for Lucie, the best singer on Sun 8th Nov? Clearly he is working to a different agenda in eliminating the competition and clearing the way for his own acts, who he also helped greatly by cheating on their behalf with song choices that do not match the weekly themes.

He has been publicly changing the rules to this competition as he goes along, making a mockery of what was once a reputable talent show, rewarding contestants with life-changing opportunities. He cannot be taken seriously now and nor can the credibility of the show. It would be a travesty if he was not reprimanded and taken to task by some credible governing body. He is setting an example to the nation's youth that lying and cheating your way to the top is acceptable - these reflect the morals of a nation where we allow celebrities too much freedom in dictating the moral standards that enter our living rooms.
Comment by Catherine Baldwin on November 10 11:37

Simon KNEW John and Edward would have had more votes, any idiot could've predicted that with the amount of press coverage they've had in comparison to Lucie. Of course he wanted them to stay, because they rake in the viewers. From a business point of view, it would have been mad to get rid of them. It's just such a shame that a talented singer had to be sacrificed in order to get more column inches.
Comment by millie on November 10 11:49

Simon Cowell is a clever man - he knew exactly what he was doing when he put the vote to the public. There was no way he could save Jedward himself, but knew the public would never vote them out.
Comment by Lucy on November 10 11:50

Simon Cowell knows exactly what he's doing... he runs the whole show. AND he's the one who makes all the money at the end. If John and Edward really are boosting ratings, I wouldn't be at at all surprised if Simon had fixed the outcome.
Comment by Katy on November 10 12:17

At the end of the day it's a TV show ... not reality and people need to calm down. Lucie did not have public support so came last ...simple as that.
Comment by claire on November 10 12:36

I think its a joke now. I hope the twins win as simon coward has said he'd leave the country if they win!
I suggest an xfactor boycott this weekend, for those who are seriusly addicted you can still catch the highlights or youtube the performances the next day. If limited numbers watch the show on Sat then Simon will know he's annoyed the public.
Comment by amy on November 10 12:42

WHO CARES!!! The fact that everyone is taking this so seriously is just laughable
Comment by Nic on November 10 12:42

Lucie got the lowest votes - what more to be said, get over it. Simon has deferred to the public vote at every opportunity so what's unfair about it this time? Please enough!
Comment by Sally Watkins on November 10 12:42

If you watch all the comments on both Lucie and Jedward you could not have anticipated Simons answer.after all it is a singing competition so the twins could not lose as wee have never heard them sing.
Comment by ronnie on November 10 12:43

he hasn't 'fixed' it - he did the same thing last week, and rachel ended up going out. its the public who voted them in - people who are complaining about it should just vote for the people they want to win, if they really care that much. its just a silly show...
Comment by calm down people on November 10 12:43

I'm glat Simon made the decision to go into deadlock and let the public decide. Lucy can sing but she has no passion behind her voice... her performances have always been forgettable. It's as if she's acting like a pop star.

When it was said that she and the twins are in the bottom two, she was so blaze about it. She just believed that she was going to get through. So, she went out there and give half of a performance. It's like a model who knows she is beautiful and just stands there, not given any effort.

It was not until Simon said to let the public decide that she started reacting and crying... before then she was laughing and smiling. I really thought that she should go through, but after her lackluster performance, I wanted the twins to come out singing like choir boys, so that she will go.

In contrast, the twins gave their all and went out there as if tonight was their last. They are really great performers. At the end of the day, XFactor is a huge popularity contest and not only about great singers. The public is the one who decides at the end of the day in most cases and Sunday night, they decided that Lucie should go.

Comment by A Simmons on November 10 12:44

Simon has proved the show is fix and i will not be watching it or voting any more. The show is called the X factor and its for the best singer. These two cannot dance or sing and should never have been put through in the first place.
Comment by Lesley on November 10 12:44

The thing is, he also said neither Lucie nor Jedward would win the comp - I agree it didn't really matter who went.

I'm no Jedward fan, but I have to agree with Simon, if I'm honest I would really rather see what Jedward come up with next week than Lucie. She is boring to watch and doesn't reflect any personality or emotion when she sings.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion right? Lucie can certainly sing very well where Jedward certainly can't - but I personally don't think she has the X-Factor at all (neither do they!).

I agree with Simon but think he should have just made the decision to save Jedward himself rather than send to the public vote. Note I do hope they're not in the final though! Lloyd really should have gone and should next week.
Comment by Sam on November 10 12:44

Why are people complaining, Lucie Jones got the least numbers of votes amongst all the contestants. If people were that bothered about her then they should have voted!
Comment by P on November 10 12:45

Everyone is critising Simon, but it was the PUBLIC who voted Lucie off.

The show is about finding a new artist - if people can't be bothered to pcik up the phone and pay 25p to save someone then why would they go down to the shops and spend £10 on an album. Lucie deserved to go because she didn't have the votes. Simple as!

Comment by Kayleigh on November 10 12:45

I used to respect Simon for his honesty but not any more. he is such a hypocrit, one minute he says that the twins can't sing and that the best singer in the sing off will go through - the next minute he says the twins were better!! Don't think So!
And also don't think I will be watching the x-factor anymore - until the twins have gone at least!
Comment by Nicky on November 10 12:45

I was furious after watching this weeks X Factor. What is the point of having the sing off at the end as every week all the judges take it to deadlock. I don't know why they have a judging panel. He said that he would judge them on their final performance which was rubbish. Clearly Lucie was the better singer, but he knew exactly what he was doing. It's good publicity to keep them in and also paves the way for the final 3 boys. Incidentally I love Danyl, but this is a very underhand way of doing things and will cause a backlash with people voting for John and Edward now as they are angry with Simon!! It is not fair on any of the acts as they are just pawns in his game!!
Comment by Tracy on November 10 12:47

I think Lucie has an amazing talent but cannot see her as the eventual winner of X Factor. At least she has had exposure now and talent scouts are aware of her talent. Jedward are entertaining and add a light heartedness to the show. They should definitely go before it gets to the last few though!
Comment by Regine on November 10 12:47

I was shocked that Simon didn't get rid of the twins. They are making a mockery of the show and never should have been sent to boot camp let alone the live finals. I used to think Simons oppinion counted for something but now I feel it is worth nothing, I wouldn't want to be judged by him. It does seem strange though that there are so many people who feel john and Edward do not deserve to stay in but they supposedly win the public vote.... I haven't seen one nice comment about them.
Comment by Lou on November 10 12:48

I am so fed up of listening to people comlpain, moan, gripe and cream fix. Whenever a favourite goes out it's always the same. This has been blown totally out of poroportion.

As much as Simon doesn't really like the twins in musical terms, he has also always said that Lucie was weak. She has got a lovely voice, but no more special that some other girls I have heard in the past.

Simon is a businessman first and foremost. He also knows that the public run the show. If there was no judge to save them at the end who would go out.

Would Rachel have gone out the first week? Did she have the lowest voting number by the public? The public voted this time, they voted Lucie in the bottom, so why moan?

How many of these people have never spent a penny on voting? How many of them are now screaming for blood but never actually did anything about it in the first place. If all these people voted for Lucie in the first place it wouldn't have come to this.

OFCOM shouldn't be involved. This is sour grapes on a mass level. The poor boys have done nothing wrong, but they have had to endure weeks of "mass bullying" by the public by people who should know better.

Simon hasn't really been a fan of either Lucie or John & Edward, he stated that neither of them would win the X_Factor and out of entertainment reasons he would rather watch the twins again. Fair Comment, nothing wrong with it at all.

I think that people should jump off the bandwagon, stop thinking that there is always a fix and just accept what has happened. Yes it was a shock, but this is how it is. The voting public spoke in their thousands and they just didn't vote for Lucie - it's as simple as that.
Comment by Tracy on November 10 12:49

Didn't realise it was a talent competition, thought it was just all a big publicity stunt for Simon Cowell. If you really want to see talent tune in to Jools Holland's Later and stop lining Cowell's very full pockets!
Comment by Liz on November 10 12:49

People should stop moaning about it so what if its a fix if you cant stand watching the twins then dont watch the show!! Get a life and get over it!! Obviously enough people like the twins!!
Comment by Moaning people get lost on November 10 12:49

This needs to stop! Quite obviouslt the public love Jedward ! Have you seen the rage about them on the internet. The amount of people I have come across that want them to win is insane! Simon id what he thought was right. He obviously thought that more people like Lucie than Jedward. At the end of the day with John & Edward in the bottom 2, no matter what decision e made, he was gonna get slated for it for some reason or other. Just watch the god damn show and vote. Simon can do what he wants. If your all so outraged at Lucie going, maybe you all should have voted on Saturday & Sunday. But if you didn't, you obviously don't care that much do you.
Comment by Amy on November 10 12:52

It's a Saturday night entertainment show, not a moral lesson in life. 11/12 people aren't going to win, and if people liked Lucie so much they should have voted for her. Sometimes luck is as important as talent. The boys are lucky. End of.
Comment by Ali on November 10 12:53

Lucie's performance on Saturday was exceptional. So, why was she in the bottom two? Obviously not enough people voted for her.
Similarly not enough people voted to keep John and Edward out of the bottom two.
Simon said that he would prefer to see the twins again, effectively sending Lucie home. This ensured that the decision went to public vote as there was a tie. These are the rules. Simon would have to accept the public vote even if Lucie stayed, which was not what he wanted. Personally I thought Lucie gave a pleasant performance reminiscent of her first audition featuring none of the progress she had appeared to make on Saturdays show. The twins, however, gave a spirited and lively performance showing immense improvement on their first audition and consequently deserved to go through.
The x-factor has never been about talent, just popularity, good looks and the persuasiveness of the judges to sway the public vote.
It is an entertainment show first and foremost and if anyone achieves fame and fortune from it. Good luck to them.
Comment by Sheila on November 10 12:54

yes of course he did it to be controversial! anything to get people back watching again next week ... very unfair of him as Lucie was clearly the better singer but at the end of the day she got less votes anyway i suppose. My main gripe though is why bother with the 'judges vote' when it keeps going to 'deadlock'! the whole thing is starting to get a bit of a joke though really now and its all about the judges and media attention etc not the actual contestants anymore .. I feel a bit sorry for them all to be honest ...
Comment by Liz Hardy on November 10 12:54

Of course Simon is a clever man....he is creating even more publicity for the show and higher viewing figures by keeping John and Edward in the competition... he just better be careful though, if they actually go ahead and win there could be a lot of people, myself included, who will no longer watch the programme in the future..
Comment by Jacky on November 10 12:54

The whole thing is a joke & extremely embarrassing. It is a real shame to see what was a 'music/singing' based talent show in previous years become nothing more than a pure money making publicity stunt for Mr Cowell. There is a time & a place for publicity however in this instance I feel Mr Cowell has unfortunately taken it one step too far. It is a huge insult to any musician. I will certainly not be tuning in to watch any more shows.
Comment by Hannah on November 10 12:55

I think that simon is taking a lot of stick in this series he did what the rest would have done and why does he always have to make the decision. If he is so bad how come the contedtants are all wanting to please him anyway The other three think that they are clever ganging up on him but he is strong enough he get over the play grounf tactics
Comment by jac on November 10 12:58

Simon must be cheering from the rooftops right now, X Factor is being discussed on tv news, in newspapers and even by Marie Clare. All free publicity. The viewing figures will go up and there will be more telephone calls made to oust the twins. All win win win for Simon. Why, if they are going to go to the public vote, bother with the sing off? Oh, is that so that they can fix who they want to go through to the next round when it suits them? As far as I am concerned it is now the ex-factor.
Comment by lily Morte on November 10 13:00

Lucy's performance the previous week was a winner - Simon knew she was a threat to his own acts but didn't want to openly vote her off!
Comment by Jan on November 10 13:02

I certainly agree with all that has been said previously. In saying that Jedward are fun to watch but from the beginning these boys have not been able to sing or synchronise their routine together. Of course its all fixed and what a mockery that makes this show out to be. Lucy was and is definitely the far far better singer as was Rachael but hopefully there will be genuine talent scouts spotters who will see these two singers true potential and sign them up. The judges should really be ashamed of themselves with all the childish back biting and bickering we have to see every week, the show is not about them but the real talent that are trying to put across how good they are. My sympathy goes to all these people and i wish them lots of luck in achieving their dreams despite the opinions of the minority judges.
Comment by Anne on November 10 13:03

At the end of the day it is just a TV show. Unfortunately these kinds of shows aren't just about whether the person can sing, dance, jump through hoops or whatever they are competing to do it is also a massive popularity contest. Just because someone appears to be able to sing better it doesn't necessarily mean they are automatically going to go through as if they haven't connected with the people who matter - the audience sat at home casting the votes then they have more chance of getting booted out.

Right or wrong that it is the way it is and I think people need to stop getting so worked up over it.
Comment by Dyson on November 10 13:03

Did everyone who is complaining vote for Lucie? I think not. If you didn't vote, then you really can't complain. It's about time the public got a say without being overruled by the judges. We had the same thing last year with Laura White & she's got a record deal now. If Lucie is good enough, and everyone that complained buys her records, then she'll be ok. If people don't realise after all this time that the real winner is Simon Cowell every time then they're very naive.
Comment by Jo on November 10 13:04

Just really disappointed. I used to think Simon did have some sort of decency in him, where a GOOD singer would always be going forward, instead of two JOKERS in a singing competition. I will not be watching anymore, it's obvious he has a greedy agenda and he's an hypocrite. Guess money is more motivating than one's moral standards.
Comment by Fede on November 10 13:05

Simon Cowell's "unexpected" U-turn to keep in the spectacularly talentless Jedward over the clearly talented Lucie Jones is proof that this is not a talent show at all but about Simon Cowell's thirst for even greater publicity and bank balance. He has invalidated the show and we should all switch off.

Comment by Gus and Jo on November 10 13:08

Will simon be happy with the outcome if and when Jedward win

I voted via sky button and was given a message that I'd been charged but my vote would not be counted - what's that all about
Comment by christine on November 10 13:10

A disgrace, I FOR ONE WILL NOT BE WATCHING AGAIN.
Comment by James on November 10 13:11

Simon has already decided who the winner is, it will not matter how many votes are cast. On the other hand the only way to get a fair result is to get rid of him. Trouble is HE is God and owns the Production Crew.
Comment by John P. on November 10 13:11

Simon Cowell is so 50 faced, he is the one that expresses that it is a singing competition, all along he has said the twins can't sing then he pulls a stunt like that, when could had the courage of his conviction and voted them off.
Comment by Brenda Coaster on November 10 13:12

I believe Simon, like everyone else is warming to Jedward. No they can't sing but their last performance WAS much better than all their previous. I thought he would jump at the chance to get rid of them but didn't. When he put it the way he did - i.e. which would you look forward to seeing again? - then it has to go with Jedward. However, I think they should have told them by now to wait for the next Britain's Got Talent rather than keep them in the X Factor.
Comment by Claire on November 10 13:14

Why all the fuss? With a few notable exceptions, the winners of the X-Factor and all the other similar shows sink without a trace within a year or so anyway! John & Edward ARE seriously terrible and should not be in the competition still - their totally cringeworthy practising-in-front-of-the-bedroom-mirror-type singing/dancing routines are entertaining - but we are laughing at them not with them. They are entertaining in the same way as the initial auditions are when the bad ones come on - we love to see people making a fool of themselves, especially when they think they are good and are so clearly not! Lucie does have a good voice and should still be in the competition, but while she will not win the X-Factor, I am sure she will be picked up by some management company soon (if she hasn't already) to enjoy some sort of success. The best of luck to her.
Comment by Susie on November 10 13:15

Simon Cowell said that the best singer in the 'sing off' would stay, which clealy didn't happen, so he's obviously doing as he pleases this season and the so-called 'rules' have completely gone out the window. It makes a mockery of the whole process, so we will not be tuning in this weekend which is a shame.
Comment by jo on November 10 13:16

He made his decision on who he thought could win the competition, as he said 'Lucy you won't win' but with the public support the twins had they can.

So why do people thinking he should have voted Lucy if he doesn't believe she can win?
Comment by Natalie on November 10 13:17

Of course he "fixed" it. He's out to save his boys. He knew Jedward would win on the peoples' vote. The desciding vote should be given to a different judge each week. Hope the bosses rap his knuckles

Comment by viv on November 10 13:18

If poeople wanted Lucy to stay in then they should have voted for her!

You can't blame Simon Cowell for her lack of public support.
Comment by Fi on November 10 13:23

the x factor has now become a farce. Its not talent they are looking for but money that the calls bring in.I wont be watching it again.Lucy was brilliant and shouldnt have gone.
Comment by lynda fish on November 10 13:23

Yes he did - he is so determined to get one of his acts to win that he is getting the best singers ie. Rachel and Lucie voted to off. He knows that Lloyd has young girls voting for him despite him not being a strong enough singer, and the same goes for John and Edward. Simon is nothing more than a cheat. People have a right to be annoyed - the judges are supposed to be looking for talent not keeping the deadwood in the competition!!!
Comment by Sue on November 10 13:23

Its all about the ratings for the show, Simon is playing games because at the beginning when Dermont asked him what they would be looking for he said at the end of the day the person who gives the best performance would be the one who stayed, but not true Simon, you lied because you wanted to pass the buck and kept your fingers crossed that it would be Lucie who got voted off because the twins were keeping people watching your show, but people are getting fed up with it all. personally I think the twins should never have been in the show at all, they are a joke!!!
If they win who is going to buy their CD's and why would anything they sang go to number one.
Comment by Yvonne on November 10 13:24

why are there judges if they go to the phone votes for a decision? The whole thing has turned into a comedy show!
Comment by madge on November 10 13:26

I wonder how John & Edward feel... I wonder what it's like to suddenly be thrust into the spotlight only to essentially have most people in the country say you're rubbish. That'd make me feel rubbish. They shouldn't be there, this'll end up like another Susan Boyle, they'll end up going mental with all of this. Since when did reality TV make it ok to ridicule people to the point that it does. It's not fair and I don't want to watch it. Do John & Edward even wanna be there? Really?
Comment by Kloe on November 10 13:29

The fact that he was praising Jedward to Westlife months ago is very suspicious so I do question his motives.
Comment by Vicky on November 10 13:34

What Simon did was wrong, he showed, he is a coward and an idiot.
Comment by Miriam on November 10 13:37

Yes, they should have gone. Lucie has way more talent and if Jedward are so great, they will get fame one way or another but they definitely don't deserve to win X Factor
Comment by Sam on November 10 13:39

Am fed up with it now, Simon new the public would have supported jedward rather than lucy. He is getting rid of good singers to try to make sure one of his acts win this year. What is the need to have a Sunday night show, when they keep putting it to the public. They might aswell just have the public vote on a Saturday night. No point in having them sing for survival when, obviously the better singer is going every week.
Comment by Shirley on November 10 13:40

Continually putting the sing off to deadlock makes a mockery of the whole thing they may as well just send home the person with the least votes each week and not bother with Sunday's show. When did Simon Cowell become incapable of making a decision or having an opinion? Poor Dannii must be fuming as this has now cost her two acts in as many weeks.
It's time to take the competition between the judges out of the show as it SHOULD be about the contestants not silly game playing by judges.
In the mean time I for one will not be watching any more
Comment by Elaine on November 10 13:41

I feel really sorry for John and Edward. They are just young boys who deserve to be there as much as everyone else. They got put throught to the finals just like every other contestant. If peopel didn't want to see Lucie in the bottom two then they should have voted! I would put money on some of the people bleeting on about Lucie didn't even vote for her!! Didn't this happen with Laura White last year? People wanted her back in but the fact is, if you are not popular enough to sell records then you will leave the competition! Its the nature of the show. Love Simon Cowell, yes clever business man and so what. Good for him - I wish I was half as successful! Ithink we all knwo that John and Edward are not going to win but let them enjoy the limelight for now. God theres some boring and miserable people in this country. Come on,you know you will all watch it again on saturday!
Comment by jen on November 10 13:41

Cheryl cole can't sing well and she sells records. Point made.
Comment by jen on November 10 13:44

Simon should be voted off the show!! It was a disgrace after all the negative comments about the boys, when given the chance to vote them off what does he do? Votes off the girl that poses a threat to his acts!! Disgraceful!!
Comment by jmchatterjee on November 10 13:53

thousands complain but MILLIONS voted to keep the boys in.Viewers SHOULD have the last say.Jean.
Comment by jean on November 10 13:56

I think it's interesting to see all these people getting up on their high horses barking on about how the show should be about 'real talent'. I'm sure a large percentage of these people, if put in Simon's position, would have done exactly the same thing.

If you were in his position and voted out Jedward, the show's biggest source of press coverage and ratings generation, and saved a mediocre contestant who is unpopular with the public, is unlikely to win and will not do anything to enhance the show from a business point of view then not only would this damage the show's ratings but you'd then have the channel bosses breathing down your neck asking why you made such a stupid business move and lost the show millions of pounds.

At the end of the day the show has always been a popularity contest, 'real talent' was rarely the prime motivation behind the votes and, now I may be destroying the dream here but someone's got to say it, the show's main priority is money. Shock horror it's not the little darling's dream of being a superstar (which of course would not at all be fuelled by the prospect of fame and fortune, bad Simon for wanting to make money, what an unheard of motivation...).

Simon made the most sensible business decision he could make in the circumstance and he's now reaping the benefits of it. Any person in any similar business situation would do the same.
Comment by Jade on November 10 13:57

I think Jedward are the most entertaining act on the show, even if they can't sing... They did win by the PUBLIC vote, so why are the public making such a fuss?
Comment by Minnie on November 10 14:04

Having said on Saturday that Lucie would go all the way, having been inpressed by her performance, how then, can Simon justify not backing her against the Dreadful Duo, who he has said time and again can't sing?

Yes, they cause controversy and bring in viewers, but it is meant to be a singing contest, so to blatently choose to keep in an act that can't sing, and send home an act whom he had backed the previous night, destroys his credibilty and that of the show.

I for one will vote with my remote control. I watched to see who would win a singing contest, not who might stir things up enough to win a contract to present on some kids TV show one day.
Comment by M on November 10 14:10

I have no doubt that Cowell might be clever but in view of all his previous comments there can be no doubt the twins should have gone. There is also the question of his personal integrity which he has now brought in to question.

Comment by Peter Knight on November 10 14:13

People need to let this go. I think Simon was right to put it to the public. If people wanted Lucie to stay why didnt they vote for her?? We cant vote here in Ireland, at least the british public can.

Jedward are talentless when it comes to the singing part of the show but boy were they entertaining! Lucie was 'meh'. As soon as shed finished singing I forgot her.

Fair play to Simon - if the final decision was up to any of the other judges they would do the EXACT same thing.

Its like the Russell Brand / Jonathan Ross radio incident - prudes, bores and moans ruining entertainment for the rest of us. Have they nothing better to do??
Comment by Ally on November 10 14:16

Go back to having only 3 on the panel then this could not happen. I was very surprised Simon did this because of his previous comments about Jedward and i think Lucy was much better then the twins, i think Simon voted tactfully knowing full well that his contestants wont loose out to the twins, it would serve him right if he was put in that position.
Comment by Joan Cary on November 10 14:27

I agree with Catherine Baldwins comments. The twins, whilst entertaining, cannot sing as well as the other acts and Simon Cowell had the opportunity to eliminate them from the contest. At this stage of the competition they should be concentrating on the talent of the contestants. All of this bad publicity must be very disheartening for them, they're under enough stress.
Comment by Loraine on November 10 14:28

I don't watch this sh*te but avoiding the temptation to say "get over yourselves" there is a very real concern here. It's all about making money out of a susceptible viewing public and one man's meglomania. The only winner here is Simon Cowell since he owns the show's format and the resulting output.

My sympathies are with the poor sods who put themselves through this humiliation week in week out and only end up being exploited to line someone else's pockets. BUT SC is probably still laughing all the way to the bank since he's getting even more publicity from this so-called controversy than even he paid for.

Please people, keep things in perspective. We have soldiers being killed in Afghanistan on a daily basis and your worried about THIS? The sooner this trash is off our screens the better.

I am absoloutely appalled at Simon's decision to allow the vote to go back to the public! Lucie is a talented young person with a beautiful voice - as for the twins - they CAN'T SING !!!! and never deserved a place on the live shows in the first place - Somebody please wake up
Comment by Carol Head on November 10 14:31

I predict a backlash, not against jedward, but against simon through his acts, which is not going to be fair for some really talented people...but talent does not really seem to be what the show is about anymore.

Simon said he would base his vote on who performed the best on the save song, and clearly he didn't do that. That is the whole point of the judges being able to save the most talented act from being unjustly evicted.
Comment by Bridget on November 10 14:32

Who cares? It's only a tv programme. Maybe everyone should vote with their feet - i.e. don't waste your money on a phone call or text. Simon is looking out for himself while extracting as much money as possible from the public. If he upsets you then DON'T VOTE!
Comment by Janni on November 10 14:32

This is all about making money on the voting! Simon knows that the twins should go but if they stay this will encourage more people to vote to save their favourites therefore making more money for Simon!
Comment by Sheila Rowan on November 10 14:34

Simon Cowell knows exactly what he is doing fixing it for his own ends, since the start he has run down john & edward, funny how he then let it go to the public vote.
Comment by yvonne parsons on November 10 14:44

John and Edward are in the show because of the public vote, they took a chance and auditioned for the show and are still there because of the votes and nothing else. Why should we criticise 2 guys for taking a chance and making the most of it??
Comment by valerie on November 10 14:45

I can understand the week before going to deadlock as Lloyd had a bad throat, however this week was uncalled for. If he was surprised with the public vote and thought that Lucie would not be going out why didn't he just save her. He contradicts himself, he says "this is a singing competition" and "it'll be based on this performance that they give in the sing off". Then when it comes to it - he backs out - was he threatened by Lucie against his acts? What if JEdward were up against one of his acts - obviously he would vote for his own but he would then say "its a singing competition & jedward can't sing". Its either all for the publicity or he feared Lucie would beat one of his acts. I only think that Lucie didn't win the public vote as the public probably thought she was safe, so then vote for someone like Lloyd or JEdward that maybe wouldn't be safe, its not a case of being less popular with the public. My initial reaction after Sunday's outcome was just to boycott x-factor now as its an absolute joke.
Comment by Cheryl on November 10 14:49

I was completely disgusted with Simon he knew the outcome and had the chance to get rid of the untalented 2 as far as I am concerned it was a complete fix and I will not be watching xfactor again, and if the country as a whole are sensible about this and don't vote Simon will have a nice dent in his wallet as thats all he cares about after having no balls to follow up on the comments he made that if the twins win he will leave the show, well Simon might be a good time NOW!!!!!
Comment by Jan on November 10 14:55

Its an absolute joke, first Rachel and now Lucie and one which means that I will no longer be watching X-Factor as a credible talent show. I feel sorry for the contestants who can actually sing, as they have no chance of winning this year.
Comment by Maria on November 10 15:11

I can't believe lucie went other john and Edward. At the end of the day it's a singing compertition and lucie can clearly sing better than the boys. I just don't think it's fair that she was voted off when she should have been given another chance. Everyone says their entertaining buy cannot sing.. They shouldn't be in the competition, they are stopping someone else from having a chance!!
Comment by Stacey on November 10 15:12

It's Simon Cowell's show so what he wants goes I'm afraid, he wants the ratings and unfortunately the fact that everyone is commenting on Sunday night's farce just helps his ratings further because it's in all the papers, websites and on everyones lips - albeit not for the right reasons. It does make a complete mockery of calling it a singing competition when John and Edward can't sing. As Danni said they either speak the words or rap them (badly I might add). Simon has consistantly slatted the twins and yet when it comes to the crunch he allows them to stay in the competition. Like so many others have pointed out he is getting rid of the competition one by one. It does make you think that the winner has already been picked by Simon so you might as well just tune into the final show. Can't see the point in voting especially when so many people can't stand John & Edward and yet they still make it through .....funny that !
Comment by Tracey on November 10 15:13

Simon knew what he was doing, as he decieded to put money before talent. I have felt that the producers Simon( as he is a judge and proucer) been fixing the show.
Comment by tanisha Walters on November 10 15:14

I think it says more about the British public than it does about Simon Cowell ! If the voting public honestly think that those two are more talented than Lucie then I really do fear for the future if those are the kind of decisions they are making.
Comment by susan on November 10 15:21

During the show Louis Walsh said that they were judges and Dermet was a compere. So why are they not doing what they are paid to do and judging the acts. The boys were clearly not the better act. Danni was right in her comment about this being a singing competition. Following his comments of the boys' performances, which have been the same each week (except this one!)Simon Cowell should have had no hesitation is voting the boys off the show. Are the public votes being revealed correctly? Did Simon know what the result would be? Was he just worried at leaving a judge with no remaining acts? This is becoming a rating show rather than a singing contest!! If they are not brave enough to judge fairly, they should be voted off themselves!
Comment by Sam on November 10 15:24

I would have done the same as Simon, lucie can sing but she wouldn't win the show and the public know that, and as such voted her in the bottom two. Did all these people who are moaning about it vote for lucie, No of course they didn't.I wasn't keen on the twins to start with but they do grow on you and i look forward to seeing what their going to do next.Well done Simon for doing what you wanted to do and not being swayed by what other people think you should do.This is the reason we admire and love to watch Simon, because he's not afraid to say or do exactly what he believes is right. xxx for Simon.
Comment by Diane campion on November 10 15:28

If Simon feels the public should decide, what's the point of having judges? They should simply be mentors and let the public decide every week with the act receiving least votes going home!
Comment by HUW ROBERTS on November 10 15:49

I was totally disgusted. It does not appear to be about talent anymore just about making money. The show is not worth watching anymore when talent is voted off and the mediocore stay
Comment by rita heywood on November 10 15:55

Simon is very clever and did not want to upset Louis his other judge so he left it to the public who obviously supported the two boys.
Lucy was a better singer but the boys may be more commercial. I personally would like to take some financial tips from Simon.
Comment by Wendy on November 10 16:02

I WAS SHOCKED THAT LUCIE GOT PUT OUT AS I THOUGH IF A GIRL WON IT WOULD BE HER, I THINK SIMON SAW HER AS A THREAT TO THE ONES THAT HE MENTORS, I ALSO THINK THAT JOE WILL WIN. NO HARM TO THE TWINS BUT ITS TIME TO GO.
Comment by joan cannon on November 10 16:03

Simon knew that Lucie was a better singer than all 3 of his acts so he took the opportunity to get rid of her plus he knows the twins get him a lot of publicity and viewing figures the only way we can react is to hit him where it hurts so everybody do not watch the x factor anymore only tune in at the end and vote only for Stacey Joe Lloyd and Jedward until all his acts have gone!! lets make a stand against a cheat who changes the rules and his on mind to suit his acts only!!
Comment by Dawn on November 10 16:09

So? even if Lucie had less votes than them, it was up to Simon to decide. buh he didnt. he wouldnt stop going on about how much he hates them tiwns n how he found them annoying n stuff, its abit two faced really. its a talent show, they have no talent, so therefore, they should be off the show!
Comment by Charlie Webb on November 10 16:22

Its all very dubious - The twins are bad and are best suited to a childrens game show. THIS is a talent contest and they are not talented singers. What I want to know is - WHO on earth keeps voting for them - are they mad?!!!!
The twins, then Lloyd should go, then maybe it should have been Lucie. After that - who knows!
My favourites are Stacey and Daniel AND I have met them all at the after show party. I did not like the twins then - that was 3 weeks ago!
Refused to have their pic taken with me, yet all the others were lovely and friendly.
Comment by jane st.george on November 10 16:36

Does Simon Cowell not realise what a fool he has made of himself , He says everyweek he is going to judge each artist on there performance , clearly Lucie was one of the best Vocalists on the Show , John and Edward are nice lads but are are hundred miles behind anyone else , Lets hope Simons arrogant decision bites him back and the Twins now go on to win , He should publicly Admit he made a big big mistake
Comment by Kevski on November 10 16:40

he has £ in frount of him can not see that he is in the wrong from start to finish he knows he can make money from them but its a singing contest not talent papers say they are the next ant & dec but ask them that no way simon has to let them go next or the show will nose dive and that not the way it works! bt will lose out too think of that losing money is not what everyone wants!
Comment by lorraine on November 10 16:42

Of course it was fixed, the X factor always has been. Anyone who genuinely believes that it was ever based on talent, as opposed to TV ratings, needs their head examined.
Comment by Mhairi on November 10 16:47

Heres the thing..the twins probably only entered the competition for a laugh and it escalated..prob put up to it by mates! So..shows what can happen..think the public view it as a bit of light relief from the 'serious singing'. Lucy .well she is just ok but the songs she gets are way too old for her ..like Valentine and she is not a strong singer but im sure she will get work .maybe in a girl group?! Lloyd well what can I say...in the end the viewers vote...he is boyband material really...
Its all changed on the show and bring on Celebrity Jungle.. Actually,,bet the twins would be good on that.can u imagine..someone ask them now!!!! and Lucy for one of the girls.
Currently...the fact is that all of them will get offered singing work somewhere I imagine...
and the twins in panto.
Does it really matter...its a show and all the people who are writing in here and saying they wont watch it anymore ..will!!!

Comment by anon on November 10 16:52

I have found the whole aspect of the show a farce. I thought Simon to be reasonably intelligent, but obviously not. Myself, like many people I know will definitely not be watching the show again. It used to be enjoyable, but not any more. Just irrating!! BBC here we come!!
Comment by Lynn on November 10 16:53

I agree entirely with Catherine Baldwin.
Comment by Claire on November 10 17:06

I agree with everyone who are saying that something is definately not legit....Simon has complained about Jedward every week and saying that it is a singing competition.....he has the chance to send them home and dosent take it!! Lets hope he supports them now and no more complaints about them!
Comment by Brenda on November 10 17:07

I HAVE GIVEN UP ON THE SHOW AS FOR ME IT HAS LOST ALL CREDIBILITY SO THAT SIMON IS ONE VIEWER LESS
Comment by JEANNETTE on November 10 17:15

I am not watching X Factor again. It is an insult to our intelligence and a bigger insult to the other contestants who CAN sing.Simon Cowell demeans the other contestants.
Comment by Colette on November 10 17:25

Simon has never liked them and has run them down from the day they bounced on to the stage at the auditions. They never should have got to boot camp. Simon had his chance to get rid of them but chose not too. I only hope people stop voting now because of this.
Comment by Elaine on November 10 17:35

i feel sorry for Lucie ...... she never should have gone thoses twins cant sing to save there life i have friends who could sing them out
Comment by linda on November 10 17:36

during the break before the judges decide who to vote out, they are told how the public have voted and who received fewer votes behind the scene - simon clearly knew who the public chose. which to be honest, is questionable if it really was the public considering 87% of the uk HATE jedward - so when simon decided to make it go thru to dead lock he knew that the twins would be put through. he always said week after week that he hates the twins performance and on saturday, they were truly horrible and lucie should have gotten thru on public votes. i believe that the show is fixed and i have given up on wanting to watch the show because the fact that the twins are still there aggravates me. lucie was superb whereas the twins cant even hit the notes in their song. lucie was my favourite and i was really angry that simon did that to her. if hes always going to go to dead lock then why not ask simon who he wants to leave first and then leave the decision to cheryl or danni because they will vote on who is the most talented and not who's going to get the show money.
Comment by maria on November 10 17:43

I agree it's Simon's show and he knows what he's doing but I don't agree with what he's done. He should be hit where it hurts as a protest - no-one should phone in!
Comment by Sonia on November 10 17:48

Simon Cowell is a very shrewd business man. He knew exactly what would happen. I feel sorry for Lucy as she a talented singer and deserved a chance.
Comment by clara may on November 10 17:53

If this is a talent show Lucie should have gone through. These "boys" should be man enough to back out of the contest and let a real singer have the opportunity to win. We all know that the votes for John & Edward are only because they wind Simon up.... that is if we can believe the results!
Comment by Carol on November 10 17:54

I think it seriously makes the show look like a complete farce. I for one won't be watching it anymore. We've seen Simon preaching for week after week, show after show and series after series about how this show is supposed to be a singing competition and now he does this! It's not a singing competition at all, it's a Simon Cowell 'Make me more Money' show!!
Comment by Ellie on November 10 17:55

jedward auditioned for the wrong show should have been on britain's got talent for their entertainment value,as for their singing can't imagine how they got this far in a serious singing competition and a great singer like lucie thrown off imagine if she had been leona lewis what a waste of real talent!, jedward will have a great future whatever time they left the competition!
Comment by jude on November 10 18:00

After Simon had said how 'vile' these twins are how can he sit there and not send them home. Something 'fishy' going on, definately seems like it was fixed. Shame on you Mr Cowell
Comment by Jacqueline on November 10 18:01

A real disappointment. I, and many of my friends, no longer wish to watch Simon Cowell playing the power game.
Comment by Sally on November 10 18:07

Yes, you may say Lucie did not have public support but a Judge was supposed to make a decision and if he could not make the right decision then all the Judges on the X Fcator show are not relevant. If Simon felt the public were always right then there is no need for any Judge on the show. To be sincere, it is all about making money, with Jedward Simon realised he was making a lot of money and so he decided to sacrifice Lucie (a rear talent) for his own pocket. I would have been satisfied if he had been sincere about the whole thing. Simon thinks everybody in the United Kingdom is ignorant, but he is wrong. Simon is an hypocrite. His words should not be taken seriously and unfortunately a lot of young people look up to him as a role model but he is misleading them by being insincere. I used to like Simon but with what he did with Lucie's eviction, he has lost all regards I have for him. I see him as someone talking only because he wants to hear the sound of his voice and I think the show has lost it's credibility as a talent show. "The show is a money making show".
Comment by Femi on November 10 18:10

If Simon voted them off the people supporting John and Edward would have complained that Simon never really like them anyway so they would have had no chance. Letting it go to 'what the poeple want' was the fairest way.
Comment by Cindy Pretorius on November 10 18:15

Total fix, the show's been ruined by allowing these 2 to carry on
Comment by JO on November 10 18:37

WE LOVE SIMON AND HE IS RIGHT IT WAS IN THE HANDS OF THE PUBLIC AND LUCIE DIDNT GET THE VOTES GET OVER IT!!!!!
Comment by DEBORAH on November 10 18:54

I think it is a real shame playing with these young peoples minds, the two boy's should have gone weeks ago because they cannot sing and as Louie keeps pointing out to everyone else?? it's a singing competition it's not Britains got Talent and the boy's do have talent but it's for making us laugh really, as they are entertaining mabey the next Ant and Dec, Lucy may not have won the competition but she is a good singer and should have stayed even if it was for another week or so,Simon should have cast the vote himself as hes always stated the boys were not good enough but there again the way things are going now they could end up winning it if the two men especially have anything to do with it , but can you imagin how these young people are feeling with all that is being said about them it must be horrible.
Comment by Ruth on November 10 18:57

J & E should never have been allowed to go through in the first place. The show is called the x factor they dont have it. Loui keeps banging on about how the boys are having fun and thats what the show is about. What a load of rubish. The show is about talent.
Simon and Loui need to decide what the show is about and stick to it. It seems they keep moving the goal posts to suit their acts. Simon should have voted J & E out as he keeps expressing how bad they are, I beleive he took it to the public hoping that they would be kept in as its far too early in the show for Loui to have no acts left. What a waist of a good act Luci should never have gone.
Comment by Lillian Liveracos on November 10 19:03

If you don't like the way X- factor is going, watch Strictly Come Dancing instead. They seem to be getting the voting system. The worst performer goes home, simple. I long ago stopped watching X- factor, as I thought there were always better singers who never even made it to boot camp. It's a joke now, get wise hit Simon Cowell in his pocket, don't watch, and don't buy the record whoever wins. And one silly journalist says that people only watch for two reasons, get this, to see if Jedward get knocked out, and what Cheryl is wearing this week.I rest my case....
Comment by Linda on November 10 19:07

I used to love xfactor but am losing interest fast as i hate the new "auditions" and i thought the program was about finding talent(think Leona, Alexandra)now a couple of clowns and Simon Cowell are taking the utter peeout of the nation. It's a joke.
Comment by Debi, Argyll on November 10 19:18

I think it's about time Simon left the panel to make way for some fresh blood. Maybe then the show would become fair once again.
Comment by Beth on November 10 19:24

I Love John and Edward in that they are hilarious and entertaining!!! Obviously A lot of other people this this as well because they gained more votes than Lucie. Fair enough she has a decent voice but she did not entertain me...Therefore she Does Not have the full package and does Not have The X Factor !
Comment by Ciara on November 10 19:58

Sometimes you can't win. Of course Simon should have used his vote... one way or the other.. but he would have got critised whatever he had done. Lucie would not have won X factor although she has a good voice. It is obviously going to be one of Simon's three boys... or is that a fix as well. There are four judges on this show and perhaps we would be as well to remember that!!
Comment by patty on November 10 20:08

Oh please!!! Anyone who thinks that this show (and others like it) is not fixed really needs to look again. Alternatively read Chart Throb by Ben Elton - read it and see the similarity between the people. Perhaps now is the time to stop this reality tv rubbish and bring back some proper viewing!
Comment by Dee on November 10 20:12

How can anyone complain? The public voted Lucie into last place, Simon just let the viewers have the last say.
I would have also gone to deadlock. Simon's a good man.
Comment by Helena on November 10 20:15

People who think that X Factor is 'just a silly show' clearly have never tried to develop a career in music. The show is an amazing avenue for people to raise their profile and win a recording contract. The constestants go through hours of performing and waiting around before making it to the finals - it is very serious for them as well as for millions of people who watch the show and genuiunely want a MUSIC artist to come out the other end.

Simon Cowell hasn't hidden the fact that he wants to 'win' the show. He sees the contestants as pawns and in order for his boys to win he has sat on the fence so that truly talented artists have gone home.

I have been a fan of the show from day one and have been overwhelmed with emotion when amazing talent like Leona Lewis and Alexandra has won. After Sunday I really do not want to watch the show as what seemed to once be about talent is now a complete and utter joke.
Comment by Natalie on November 10 20:26

Simon is not silly, but the man "can`t have no shame", how can he walk down the road after making such a song and dance about JEDWARD being a pile of crap, then keeps them in, we know they are keeping people talking, about, and watching the show, but if that`s what he wants, he should NOT PROMOTE X FACTOR AS A SINGING COMPETION, but yes just another entertainment show.
Comment by clara on November 10 20:30

The least itv can do is to bring Lucy back, and Simon Cowell should quit X Factor. He is now pathetic and has destroyed the show. Watch the audiences fall. He is an idiot. I for one will never vote or watch the show again. He can't seem to stop comparing everyone to Leona Lewis - disgraceful, but of course she has made him more money than any other contestant, make of this what you will. He should go.
Comment by Ann on November 10 20:46

I think Simon was right in letting the public decide the fate of the bottom two.
However, I don't think the twins should ever have got to the live shows in the first place as they clearly can't sing or dance.
If it was Britains Got Talent I wouldn't have any problems with them but X Factor is supposed to be a SINGING contest something neither of the twins can do.
People shouldn't carp when it is the public who made the decision not Simon. Get a life and some perspective for heavens sake.
Comment by Christine on November 10 20:51

Well done Simon, another top act ofF the picture.By leaving a TOP ACT OUT and going to the public vote he KNEW another threat was going to miss out.Very CLEVER man but his mistake is he has LOST ANOTHER FAMILIES VOTES by being too smug and CLEVER .Well done Mr COWELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL hope the BOYS win,BUT YOU ARE STILL MAKING FORTUNES OUT OF US IDIOTS

Comment by Joseph Neenan on November 10 20:53

Simon Cowell has said week after week how vile and talentless Jedward are. Why then did he not have the courage of his own convictions and vote them off on Saturday. Lucie has a beautiful voice and after all this is a singing competition. Simon has just destroyed Lucie's chances of winning the competition, and I do think she had a good chance of winning, and I hope he realises that the public have lost all faith in him. Where was you backbone on Saturday eh!
Comment by Joyce Redpath on November 10 21:25

Simon was chasing ratings and not promoting talent, as we would like us to believe he does. He was disingenuous in his decision making and tried, unsuccessfully I hope, to appear authentic as he found a way to keep the twins who cannot sing at all. Lucy will have been hurt and humiliated to have been send home when he could have saved her, a young woman with mega talent.
Simon Cowell and X Factor leave a bad taste, so its good bye X Factor, and time to enjoy Strictly, which is a wonderful feel good show.
Good bye X FACTOR
Comment by ali on November 10 21:28

i think its a complete scam simons been moaning bout the twins from the start so why pass the oppertunity up when it arises?! he either saw her as competition or its fixed either or its just because he wants to win! I personally think its now rubbish and will not watch the rest of the show as no-one else is worth winning it!!!
Comment by elena finnimore on November 10 21:29

Of course he didn't fix it! It's the public who lost Lucy her place she didn't get enough votes, she was bottom of the pile so she had to go. I wonder if all the people that are causing such a fuss over this voted to keep her in anyway? It's just a talent show. Calm down!
Comment by Sandra on November 10 21:56

People are blaming Simon for Lucie leaving the competition but in fact it's down to the public that Lucie is gone and jedward is still there.
Comment by lorraine on November 10 22:01

That was ridiculos Jedward are a joke dont even know why they are on the xfactor when they cant sing very stupid luis putting them through. Also I am a bit guted Ethan didnt gt through soz to llyod fans but Ethan was a btter singer it was that stupid will yound telling cheryl who to put through. I want Ollie, Joe or Danyl to win there all great.
Comment by Morven gallacher on November 10 22:04

To put things into perspective there are worse things happening in the world and the X Factor is JUST a tv program made for entertainment. However..... it is meant to be a singing competition not Britain's Got Talent and Jedward cannot sing...... Regardless of how old they are or what there future holds they shouldn't have even made it to Bootcamp. Rachel and Lucie, both good singers who, with the right mentoring, could have a future in the music industry (what I thought the how was about) and maybe even win the X Factor.
I believe Simon is doing what Louis used to do and getting rid of decent competion. I now hope either Stacey or Joe win. They are both very good singers but it would show Simon that cheating isn't the way forward.
This show has now run it's course because it's not about singing and having the X Factor anymore and Danii seems to be the only judge who is critiqueing the actual singing.
Comment by Martina on November 10 22:18

If this is a talent show then of course John and Edward should have gone out. They should not have been in the competition in the first place, they are not singers. If this is really just an entertainment show then perhaps the rules should be tightened up before any future series. Is this a singing competition or is it "Britain's Got Talent"? If the latter then, sorry boys, but you shouldn't be there either, not only can you not sing, but there's not a lot of obvious talent there either.
Comment by Carole on November 10 22:32

well at the end the public have the final vote. so obviously as Lucie had the least votes, she had to go, Of course simon could of saved her, but it's irevelant now. the public really voted and that's what it's all about.
Comment by sonja wilson on November 10 22:36

Complete farce. Had doubts about this competiton before but this has just confirmed it is all a fix. Last week Rachel and now Lucie how are we meant to believe the public actually prefer Jedward. Unbelievable !!!!
Comment by Fiona Gilchrist on November 10 22:56

Simon has been going on about the twins for weeks & when he actually had the opportunity to vote them off he bottled out. It is all about ratings & not about the best singers being there at the final. Lucy may not have won but she was one of the best singers in the competition. I hope now that the twins go through & win, & as a result Simon will lose soo much money as they are not creditable singers.
Comment by Judy Bird on November 10 23:02

why was Simon given the last "vote" again, when it should be rotated, he obviously engineered the results -as per usual. Jedward cannot sing - yes theyre irritatingly entertaining after a fashion BUT it is a singing competition, so the best singers should be chosen, not out of tune artists.
Comment by lizii on November 10 23:14

LAst year's X factor was bad enough with Laura being voted off by the Irish idiot, but Simon has gone one further this year by just looking to how much money he can make by people voting week after week to get the terrible twosome out. He's spent weeks saying how rubbish they are, then not getting rid of them. Lucy's performance was one of the best this week and she always is one of the best. So cynical of Simon- I'm fed up of the show now and don't want to watch it again even though Jamie is actually my favorite.
Comment by Sue on November 10 23:19

I think Simon made the right decision to go to deadlock. The public voted and Lucy was at the bottom. It is silly to say Simon is only trying to keep his own acts in. He has the power and the money to mentor any of these contestants when the show ends. If they are good they will make it anyway. He knows what he is doing. Every one whom he has said will win has. I would rate his decision over the other 3 judges.
Comment by J Collins on November 10 23:21

Simon Cowell has let X factor down. He is always going on about "this is a singing competition" but he puts people through who are not able to sing. This needs to be looked at because the public now think he has a reason why he did not vote the twins out. Simon be fair to the programme and the public.
Comment by Shazza on November 10 23:26

I don't understand why everyone is going mental over this. The twins have equal right as everyone else to be in the competition at this stage, because the PUBLIC has kept them in! So to then blame Simon for not getting rid of them the first time they are in the bottom 2 is unfair. Other people who have been in the bottom 2 have been given chances, why shouldn't the boys, who equally deserve to be. And at the end of the day, the PUBLIC gave Jeward more votes than Lucie, which means that the PUBLIC prefers Jeward over lucy. I think those who are raging should look around at the people sitting close to them and take their anger out of the people that voted!
Comment by Yulan on November 11 01:17

Who cares! Its a TV show!
Comment by L McGilligan on November 11 07:58

It has to be a fix, but also, if he kept Lucie in she would of been a threat to his two as she was better than them. He used the fix to FIX!
Comment by juliet on November 11 09:42

John and edward should withdraw . They are entertaining to the degree that watching someone make a fool of themselves can be called entertaining. Having said that Ant and Dec with whom they have been compared would appear to have done very well without any discernible talent, likeable as they are. So clearly Simons patronising attitude to the public and particularly those who would waste money on voting in these charades shines thru more than ever. The money making glint in his eyes is there to be seen. In the interview afterwards he said this is not life or death however it is to the career options of yet another singer trying to break through. Obviously the boy s are unique(?) enough to maximise the publicity already achieved. Thank good ness Simons deceit is finally laid bare. Answer to the problem... do not vote.

I didn't like the twins from the very beginning, but you have to give them credit for effort and commitment...and they are getting better each week and are entertaining. Lucie is a good singer and delivers a good performance each week, but there is just something missing - she doesn't shine on stage. I don't think that Simon should be judged so harshly, I actually feel he made the right decision to go to the public vote. I actually felt that John and Edward gave it their all. It isn't just a singing competition, they are looking for someone with the X-Factor and the boys do seem to have a certain something that is keeping folk voting for them.

simon is there as a judge, and was in a position to vote off these least talented contestant. its looking like he is changing the rules of the show as he goes along in these past few weeks, which isnt fair. John and edward are entertaining, but they need to be able to sing and dance well, to be in this stage of the competition.

Either it's a fix and Simon wanted to get rid of competition for his acts or he is too worried that him voting against Louie's last act will upset Louie.
Either way, the judges have been back to the public vote 4 TIMES this series and are looking dispensible. After losing Rachel and Alice to 2 inferior singing acts I have decided the X factor is not worth watching any more and will be switching to another channel in future!

I am really shocked by the decision Simon made on Sunday letting the vote go to deadlock. He said it's all down to tonights performance when Lucie belted out Whitney's Houston song One Moment In Time, over John and Edward who can't sing. Didn't Simon say it's a singing contest and he always wanted to the boys out
from day one. He knows that Dannii had the strongest group and didn't want her girls to win the show. Well l just hope that his two boys will be in the bottom two this weekend

aren't the judges supposed to base their decision on the performance in the sing off ? either simon was watching a different thing to me or its a fix ! I feel sad for lucy. I would like to carry on watching to support the artists that can sing but sadly think i will be voting by placing my finger on the off button on my tv when it comes on this week .
Comment by jennie on November 11 13:00

I AM LIVID THAT SOMEONE WITH GREAT TALENT WAS VOTED OFF INSTEAD OF THE TWO JOKES THEY CALL JEDWARD, I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THE LADS TRY HARD WHEN THEY ARE ON STAGE BUT THAT IS ONLY TO COMPENSATE THE FACT THAT THEY ARE OUT OF TUNE AND OUT OF SINC! HOW COULD SIMON SIT THERE AS A JUDGE OF A TALENT COMPETITION AND LET IT GO TO DEADLOCK. ALOT OF VIEWERS WILL BE LOST DUE TO THIS AND I AM ONE IF THEM! JEDWARD TO GO!
Comment by ADELLE HALLINAN on November 11 13:26

a complete sham. lucie was one of the best singers on the show. i feel sorry for jedward but they are a making a mockery of what is supposed to be a talent show other than making fools of themselves they dont have any talent whatsoever. lou should never have chosen them in the first place and simon has made himself look a k
Comment by bezz on November 11 14:10

what is simon playing at thoes boys are rubbish thay cant sing or dance and lucy is the best singer on that show he should be sacked of his own show and yes i bet he did fix it for the boys to stay afther what he has been saying every week about then well i wont be watching this show any more get rid of simon and we will have a better show.
Comment by janet on November 12 09:34

i dont understand what all the hype is about,if the public wanted lucie to stay then they wouldve voted for her to stay, simple as that!!!
dont see why everyone are blaming this on simon ,jedward are so funny and entertaining and its obvious the public love them!!!!
Comment by sharon on November 12 10:53

Simon Cowell has been in this business for a long time. He knows that the public affection for an act is important. At the end of the day if you don't like an act - you don't buy their records.
With Xfactor, the winners and runners up need the hype behind the show to sell their records - John and Edward allow this hype to be increased. Clearly Lucie also would not have won, so I don't see the harm. She probably got more publicity for her cause in being voted out in this manner.
Comment by melissa on November 12 10:54

All Simon cares about is the ratings/money and he obviously can make more money with the twins in, than keeping Lucy... he was too much of a coward to make the decision himself, he knew full well that the public would vote for the twins.

I personally think its a tactic to make MORE people vote the following week..like they did last year after Laura White.... people were so shocked when she left people voted more the following week... just another tactic to make more votes/money.... yes its a reality show but its also people's lives he's playing with... those twins will have a future regardless... possibly in kids TV etc, and Simon knows it.
Comment by Rebecca on November 12 11:17

Cowardly Cowell. Having praised Lucie for her performance and on record as being prepared to leave the country if the gruesome twosome won the competition - Cowell opted out. Miss Minogue said at the end of the show "I thought it was a singing contest". It seems not, Cowardly Cowell has another agenda and finding the best talent does not seem to be it!
Comment by Ray L on November 12 15:12

iI the judges are continually going to leave it to the public vote then why put them through the sing off? Why not just take it that the person with the least number of votes from the public automatically goes home, save them all the pain of having to sing again.
Comment by Jane on November 12 18:55

i think simon should have sent john and edward home straight away and not left it to the public's vote as john and edward ae entetainers but his compition is a singing one so lucy should have stayed
Comment by harriet on November 12 20:42

I think it is time to call it a day with the X Factor has Simon has forgotten what the show is about. I just hope now the twins go on to win because who in there right mind is going to by a record of thiers
Comment by margaret on November 12 21:15

Simon needs to decide whether XFactor is a singing competition or not and then let the public know! The 'deadlock' option was supposed to be used when two acts were so good the judges couldn't decide between them. If Simon is going to use it each week why have judges at all?! Let the judges act as mentors and let the public decide the outcome each week. The whole show is a joke now and Simon has really gone down in my estimation. Just admit it Simon - its all about ratings and money!!!
Comment by bluemelody on November 13 11:46

Everyone knows Simon fixes the X Factor to suit himself..The over 25 got no where before but now he has them lo and behold all 3 are stll there..He critised the twins from day one and knows the end result as its his show..People should wise up and save their money
Comment by Bridie on November 14 12:53

X Factor auditions:

Can you sing out of tune?

Can you turn a once respected show into a joke?

Can you dance badly?

Can you jump up and down out of time?

Can you not string a sentence together when spoken to?

If the answer is yes to any of the above then you can audition for the next X Factor.

Please watch this space for details of how to apply.
