Katie Price distraught as son rushed to hospital

By Sarah Karmali  on Thursday 5 November 2009

Katie Price - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

Katie Price was ‘in pieces' last night, after her disabled son Harvey was rushed to the hospital with breathing difficulties.

The glamour model broke down in tears after hearing from the family nanny that Harvey had fallen ill, while she was away on her nationwide promotional book tour.

The 31-year-old immediately hurried to be by his side, telling a friend: ‘I have to be there for Harvey. He's my little Angel and he needs his mummy.'

Very worried' ex-husband Peter Andre also instantly rushed to Harvey's bedside after hearing the news.

‘Harvey had a massive temperature and couldn't keep any food down either,' said an inside source. ‘More worryingly, his breathing was also a huge concern and there was no option but to urgently seek medical advice.'

Doctors have expressed that they wish to keep Harvey at the East Surrey Hospital for 48 hours to monitor him.

‘The doctors weren't taking any chances,' said the source. ‘If he doesn't get any better, he might be there for a while. It could well be complications arising from potential swine flu, but they don't know yet. He's a very poorly young man.'

Harvey, who's father is footballer Dwight Yorke, suffers from septo-optic dysplasia - meaning that he is partially blind and needs constant care.

Katie has cancelled her upcoming book signings until further notice.

It's a bit sad that she had to find out Harvey was in hospital from the nanny. Why weren't they with Peter if Katie was away? These two seriously need to stop their bickering for the sake of the children.

Where's Dwight Yorke?????
Comment by Lynsie on November 05 12:39

lots of mothers have nannys, peter may well have been working too. most parents work nowadays. you don't know anything about it, there is nothing in the article that says they were bickering.

There's nothing wrong with leaving kids with a nanny if you have to work, but it's just a shame that she was off dressing up like an idiot and signing copies of another awful book. That's all.

Katie doesn't let Peter have Harvey since their split which is a shame as he's been more of a father to Harvey than Dwight Yorke has ever been.
Comment by Karen Humphries on November 05 13:00

As silly & selfish as Katie has been at times, Peter really has been very cold during this split. Hopefully sitting together united by worry, they will realise that although they are still amassing column inches, the only fans not thinking their tit for tat squabbles a bit pathetic at the moment, are the teeny-bopper fans, the rest don't have the backbone to say it to their faces! As a woman in my 30's I can say, I have watched all their programmes, together & since the split, & I think their fun personalities are being over-shaddowed by the 'he said she said nonsense!' Time to grow up guys, its obvious Katie still loves Pete & it's just as obvious Pete is on a high from the added attention he is now getting since he left her. So you can't 'be' together, get over it & show the kids you can work together, us humble folks not in the limelight somehow manage it!

I would never go as far to say that Katie Price is an unfit mother, as you don't ever get the impression that she's not any good. Though it would have made sense to leave Harvey and the other kids with Pete. However, under the circumstances I think it's better that Harvey was with the Nanny when he was taken to hospital because if he was with Pete and this happened, it could have opened a huge can of worms and Katie would be convinced it's Pete's fault. Then for the next several weeks, you'll have every magazine cover under the sun showing this story.

If it's true that Katie doesn't let Pete see Harvey I think that's terrible behaviour. Peter has been more of a dad to him than dwight's ever been. But I really think the pair of them need to stop using their children to get back at each other. What sort of example are they setting? And as for Alex Reid, well. Katie can do what she likes in her 'grown up' time, but I really don't think she should be letting her kids see him. I bet they're confused enough as it is... without some sort of father replacement who gets into fights and occasionally dresses as a woman
Comment by Anna on November 05 14:00

I agree with Kloe, its better that they kids were left with a nanny instead of Peter as it could have lead to a blame situation. Its unfair to drag Dwight York into the situation as hes never really had much to do with Harvey has he?

Maybe Katie and Peter should both take some time out of the limelight to focus on whats important, their children, especially since Harvey has conditions that require constant attention.

I think Katie is doing the best she knows how, both in motherhood and her career.
Comment by Ally B on November 05 14:19

If he had potential swine flu why wasn't his mother with him?

Oh yeah she's off promoting another book she didn't write.
Poor kid, glad she's not my mother
Comment by Beth on November 05 14:35

Hmm, let me see if I have got this right, Katie is dumped by Dwight but keeps...does not abort or put up for adoption.. her disabled son...works hard and makes the most out of her limited talents and does remarkably well for herself as an indepedent woman, who is also a single mother....though by now one with serious trust issues.

Then she meets and marries Pete, a nice bloke but one who couldn't handle Katie....I mean how naieve was he?! Katie Price is not a shrinking violet, she was never going to be, she is hard work and high maintenance for any guy and she knows it....hence the confusion, the drama, etc. over her split with Pete, she got dumped again and she knows why but can't change how she is, or she becomes when Jordan takes over....mind you if she was any different she would probably not have had the strength of character to keep her son and raise him.... which she was doing before Pete came along.

She needs to understand its over with Pete and why its over, she should reflect on how she got it wrong again, she keeps choosing the wrong kind of guys....and I think she will until she 'kills' Jordan off and lives life as Katie Price.

BUT its plain wrong and bitchy to say she is a bad mother.....

I THINK IT'S GREAT THAT THEY ARE BOTH THERE FOR THE KIDS.. DESPITE THEIR PERSONAL PROBLEMS.

REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER THE MEDIA SAYS ABOUT HER AND PETER... I THINK THEY SEEM TO BE FANTASTIC PARENTS.

GET BETTER SOON LITTLE HARVEY.. I THINK HE KEEPS THE PARENTS DOWN TO EARTH... AND THEY NEED HIM MORE THAN HE NEEDS THEM. THERE IS LOTS OF LOVE BETWEEN ALL THE FAMILY TOGETHER OR APART.

It's sad that they can't be amicable. I feel sorry for Katie as the man she loves left her, but from watching how she treated him on TV she wasn't so nice to him anyway. However, he knew her reputation before he married her. I hope one day they make their peace. I also think that Alex Reid is a rebound relationship because Katie has suddlenly had this huuuuge void in her life where Pete was. It's all very sad. The only other thing that I think is a crying shame is that people I know goign through divorce wouldn't want all of their movements and details broadcast to everyone everywhere. I reckon that makes the strain of this very public divorce even worse. No wonder they both have public outbursts so much. I think I would too!
