Nicole Kidman was warned NOT to marry Tom Cruise

In one of her most revealing interviews to date, the notoriously private Nicole Kidman has revealed that she was warned not to marry Tom Cruise.

The 42-year-old actress, who is now married to country singer Keith Urban, opened up about her former ten-year relationship with the current Mr Katie Holmes.

‘I became famous very young,' she told GQ magazine. ‘I became very famous because I was the wife of somebody... And really, despite the huge profile that bought to me, I was still finding my feet.

Cruise and Kidman tied the knot back in 1990, after they met on the set of Days of Thunder.

My agents at the time were like, "Do not get married! It will ruin your career!" and I was like "But I'm in love"' she continued. ‘I wasn't someone interested in fame. And that's not why I got married.'

After adopting son Connor and daughter Isabella together, the couple split in 2001, shortly after their ten-year anniversary.

The Oscar-winning actress also revealed in the interview that she believes her life has been about exploring different types of love - ranging from ‘mundane' marriage and monogamy to ‘strange sexual fetish stuff'.

She also touched on the lengths that she goes to in order to maintain her privacy - revealing that she set fire to her diaries after tying the knot with current husband Keith in 2006.

‘If you know what's going on inside somebody's head all the time, that's not a good place,' she said. ‘You can't read somebody's diary. You shouldn't read it. I burnt most of my journals after I remarried... You're only going to find out bad things.'

Nicole is currently promoting the big-screen adaptation of musical Nine, in which she features alongside an all-star cast including Kate Hudson, Penelope Cruz, Judi Dench, Sophia Loren, Marion Cotillard and Stacey ‘Fergie' Ferguson.
