Rihanna speaks out about Chris Brown assault

Rihanna has finally broken her silence following the assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown back in February.

In an interview for Good Morning America, due to air on Thursday, the popstar tells Diane Sawyer: ‘This happened to me... It can happen to anyone.'

She also adds that the attack, which left her bruised and bloodied over nine months ago, was particularly difficult to come to terms with because ‘he was definitely my first big love.'

The singing sensation has also simultaneously opened up to a US magazine, talking about the huge amount of media attention that she had to deal with in the aftermath of the incident.

‘I went to sleep as Rihanna, and woke up as Britney Spears,' she says. ‘That was the level of media chaos that happened the next day.

‘The positive thing that has come out of this situation is that people can learn from that,' she continues. ‘I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn't heard.'

20-year-old Chris Brown was sentenced back in August after pleading guilty to assault, and is currently carrying out six months of community service.

Rihanna's latest single Russian Roulette debuted last week, and her new album Rated R is set for release later this month.
