X Factor dream over for Rachel Adedeji
By Sarah Karmali on Monday 2 November 2009
Despite receiving high praise from the judges and wowing the crowd with her impressive vocals, it was farewell for Rachel Adedeji as she failed to make it through to the next round of the X Factor.
The 17-year-old found herself in the sing-off for the third time, but lost out to the blonde-haired, blue-eyed favourite Lloyd Daniels.
With Lloyd suffering from a sore throat so bad that he could barely talk, let alone sing, he croakily battled his way through his survival song looking devastated, and even pausing to apologise half way through.
The deciding vote was left down to Simon Cowell, and despite Rachel visibly giving the stronger performance, he opted to leave the outcome down to the public vote - claiming that it was unfair for him to judge due to Lloyd's illness.
‘This is the third time you're in the bottom two. That tells me the public isn't getting something,' he told a teary Rachel. ‘I'm going to have to leave it up to the public.'
And so having received the lowest number of phone votes, it was Rachel who had to say her goodbyes.
As a relieved Lloyd made his way to join his fellow contestants, Dannii Minogue took to the stage to comfort her sobbing protégé - saying that she was stunned over the result.
‘I don't know what went wrong, but I'll be banging my head against the wall,' she said.
Controversially, twins John and Edward managed to steer clear of the sing-off once again, as did Simon's act Danyl Johnson, who had come close to facing the boot the week before.
But X Factor wouldn't be X Factor without some kind of ‘frock up' and this week's fashion disaster came courtesy of the nation's sweetheart, Cheryl Cole.
The judge had the nation divided when she stepped out in a bizarre futuristic dress and thigh-high boots.

Laura white from last year's X factor, who had a fabulous voice and got voted out early like Rachel, has tweeted Rachel offering her support. I think this is fab as it goes to show that there is life after the X Factor as Laura's debut single is released today!

It's a shame that Rachel had to leave when there are still talentless idiots like John and Edward in. What is wrong with the people voting?!

If the other acts offered as much memorable entertainment as Jedward, then the twins would be quickly outvoted in favour of entertaining-acts-who-could-also-sing-in-tune.

Am devastated that Simon didn't save the hugely talented Rachel - it may be that the public are using their vote for reasons other than extraordinary talent and singing ability. I do feel that Simon should take some of the responsibility here - he looks for any negative point and highlights it when critiquing other judges acts - he is so competitive and is determined to win I find his behaviour quite ugly.

I fail to understand what is meant by Jedward being memorable entertainment. They can't sing or dance and have zero charisma. I actually leave the room when they are on the show, like you would during the adverts. They are a complete embarrasment. I have no idea what this says about us as a nation, other than we have very poor judgement.

Sure its sad that she had to go, but lets face it... She was never going to win was she? Someone's got to go so quit moaning about it.
Having said that, I think half the voters are keeping John and Edward in purely BECAUSE they are untalented and they want to irritate Simon Cowell as much as possible.

Can't believe Rachel has been voted off. Lloyd should have gone illness or not. Rachel is the better Talent! I get that people want to be entertained and some find jedward fun but if this truly is a talent show then the public needs to cut it out. On this occasion tho Simon Cowell let the side down as he copped out by letting it go to Dead lock I think he knew that would put lloyd through

Rachel shouldn't have gone this week, the twins should have! Why are the public still voting for them? It's a singing contest not a competition to see who can have the most dancers and fireworks on stage. No-one will want to listen to their out of tune drivel on the radio if they win!
