Jude Law has become a father for the fourth time, just two months after acknowledging his ex-lover was pregnant.

Model Samantha Burke gave birth to their daughter Sophia in Florida on Tuesday night - one week early! Baby Sophia weighed 5lb 12oz and both mother and baby are 'doing well', said a source.

Jude met Samantha while he was filming Sherlock Holmes in New York last year. The couple only had a brief fling, but Samantha, 24, discovered she was pregnant when their affair was over.

Although Jude is no longer in a relationship with the aspiring actress, he says he will support their child.

'I doubt Jude was there. Besides the financial support, he's not involved,' a source told People.com.

Samantha's spokeswomen confirmed the birth and said the new mum was 'overwhelmed with joy at the arrival of her beautiful and healthy baby girl'.

Jude, 36, already has three children with his ex-wife Sadie Frost. It was only revealed he would be come a father for the fourth time in July after he was forced to make a statement following weeks of gossip and internet rumours.

'Jude Law can confirm that, following a relationship last year, he has been advised that he is to be the father of a child due in the fall of this year,' said his publicist at the time.

'He is no longer in a relationship with the person involved, but he intends to be fully supportive of the child's life.'

However, it was reported last month that Jude would insist on a DNA test after the birth to prove the child is his. Samantha's grandmother claimed the actor had 'behaved less than a gentleman'.

Jude broke up with Sadie in 2003 and then began dating actress and designer Sienna Miller. Their relationship ended when he had an affair with his children's nanny.
