Nicole Richie has a baby boy

Nicole Richie has given birth to her second child, a baby boy named Sparrow James Midnight Madden.

In a bid to top the list of most extraordinary celebrity baby names ever, 27-year-old Richie and her partner Good Charlotte band member Joel Madden have blessed their newborn with the name of a common bird.

Sparrow was born in the early hours of yesterday, weighing in at 7lbs 14oz.

The new Richie arrival will be a brother to older sister Harlow Winter Kate Madden who was born in January 2008.

Speaking to People magazine earlier this summer, Madden enthused: ‘We’re very, very blessed. We've already had one healthy kid, and that's all you can ask for as a parent – healthy kids.’
