Kerry Katona dropped from Iceland adverts
By Kate Matharu on Tuesday 18 August 2009
Kerry Katona, the face of supermarket Iceland, has been axed from the brand’s adverts, after images emerged at the weekend of the I’m A Celebrity star allegedly snorting cocaine.
Sunday tabloid the News of the World splashed pictures of Katona seemingly taking lines of the class A drug at her home in Cheshire, along with a secretly filmed video and Iceland have immediately distanced themselves from the ex-Atomic Kitten star, saying it was ‘impossible’ for her to continue in the role.
Katona has fronted the supermarket’s ad campaigns for four years and despite being sacked, a spokesman for Iceland commented that for ‘most’ of her time working with the chain, Katona had ‘been a successful part of our advertising campaigns’.
The spokesman continued: ‘We have always stood by her, as an example of a normal person and mum who has experienced some of the modern-day culture of fame, and how difficult it can be to deal with.
‘However, following the most recent allegations, we feel it is impossible for Kerry to continue to work with us as one of the faces of Iceland advertising.’
Iceland added that they would aim to help Katona get support, should the 28-year-old need it.
The news will come as another financial blow for Katona who was reportedly taking home £250,000 as the face of the supermarket chain.
A year ago Kerry was made bankrupt and earlier this month, lost her MTV deal – said to be worth £100,000 - after her latest car crash TV series, What’s The Problem? failed to attract enough viewers.

I feel that in the midst of these allegations one point has been missed. How can a newspaper get away with hiding a camera in someone's private bathroom. This is a blatant invasion of privacy. They may have captured images of drug taking but they could also have filmed Kerry bathing herself or worse her children. Despite what Kerry has done I think that the News of the World has serious questions to answer about the methods used to get their headlines. I am personally more disgusted with them than I am with Kerry.

Comment by Lyndsey suggests that the actions fo the News of the World are worse than those of the person taking the drugs, and perhaps they might if this person was not a single mother of children. What if the children had consumed the drugs, or seen their mother using. Whose behaviour would be worse then, Ms Katona's or the News of the World, or some other scapegoat. Given these revelations, she could well lose custody of her children.......Britney Spears ring a bell ? Same trailer trash behaviour, same huge weight gain/loss/gain/loss, same doing anything for headlines.
If she didn't want to get coverage for taking drugs then she shouldn't have taken them. And she's obviously not that bankrupt if she can afford a coke habit !

why cant the press leave people alone. they add to the misery of most of the celebs these days, we dont all want to know about their private lives. stop the pestering. After who is gaining from their misery anyway, certainly not us or them. guess who??

While I certainly don't condone Kerry's behavior, Lynsey is right. This is a total intrusion of her privacy. Are they really getting away with that?

i also think its wrong, its a complete intrusion. i think catherine is wrong to judge, all drugs are affordable somehow, even when your bankrupt. so i dont think its fair to jump to conclusions, also its definitely definitely not the tabloids business to sneak cameras into the bathroom out of all places, whether shes a capable mother or not, if she did it in a public place, then it would be fair for it to become public. and also so many people do drugs, there isnt much point judging them, and calling them disgusting or incapable. if anything, maybe they just need a bit of help and support, and many people's weight go up and down drastically, that also stems from some kind of emotional struggle. leave them alone, or offer support. rant over :]
