Chris Brown’s public apology for Rihanna assault
By Kate Matharu on Tuesday 21 July 2009
Chris Brown has eaten a large slice of humble pie by making a very public apology, via a YouTube video, for his assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna.
The R&B star felt compelled to address his fans and critics directly, before giving interviews on the incident, to prove to the world his deep regret at the violent episode.
Brown pleaded guilty of assault last month and was sentenced to five years on probation and six months of community service.
The 20-year-old spoke to camera, admitting he has ‘let a lot of people down’ but that he ‘thought it was time that you heard directly from me that I am sorry.’
The singer read from a script explaining: ‘I wish I had the change to live those few moments again,’ and that ‘I am very sad and very ashamed of what I have done.’
Brown revealed that he has been seeking help to curb his violent temper.
He referred to the violent home he had grown up in himself, saying: ‘I saw first hand what uncontrolled rage can do.’
Shocking photos of a beaten up Rihanna surfaced on the internet in February shortly after the incident and police records state Brown tried to push the songstress from the car and repeatedly hit and choked her.
Concluding his apology Brown confessed: ‘I intend to live my life so that I am truly worthy of the term ‘role model’.’

too little too late!! There is no excuse to violently attack anyone, she trusted and loved this man and he abused that. Maybe it has more to do with trying to win back sponsership and a now failing career
