Elton John last night threw his famous White Tie and Tiara Ball – and Elizabeth Hurley and Geri Halliwell battled it out in the fairytale fashion stakes.

Liz wowed when she stepped out of her London home in a plunging white floor-sweeper, with signature smoky charcoal eyes and tumbling curly tresses.

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell – who was spotted arriving at fellow attendee George Michael's house - was snapping at her heels for the most glamorous title in a beaded, split-to-the-thigh empire-line gown.

Elton's White Tie bash has turned in to one of the high society set's hottest tickets in town, always attracting a host of stars from the music and entertainment worlds.

And this year was no exception.

Other guests included Lily Allen, who looked stunning in a platinum-blonde bobbed wig and a delicate metallic lace dress, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who eschewed the white dress code and donned a striking black halterneck, and Erin O'Connor, who was regal in a black shift.

Donna Air arrived looking ethereal in a frill-detail strapless grey chiffon dress, while legendary singer Shirley Bassey plumped for purple and old friend Lulu chose sheer, one-shouldered black.

Sir Elton and his partner David Furnish held their first White Tie and Tiara Ball at their Windsor mansion – set amongst 37 acres of English countryside – in 1999.

It fast became a favourite with the stars, and every year raises funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation.
