Matthew Broderick has opened up about the birth of his twin girls, Marion and Tabitha, saying he is 'very happy'.

After a performance in The Philanthropist on Broadway on Tuesday night, he said: 'I'm very happy. I don't know what else to say.'

He added: 'I've seen them already. I just got back from Ohio, where the girls were born Monday.'

Little Marion Loretta Elwell and Tabitha Hodge Broderick were born via a surrogate mum called Michelle Ross, after Matthew and Sarah Jessica Parker had problems conceiving since the birth of their son James Wilkie, 6.

Both parents are said to be 'over the moon' at their arrival.

And SJP's costume designer on Sex and the City, Patricia Field, believes they'll be super-stylish tots.

She said: 'I think they'll be very imaginatively dressed, a product of her great imagination.

'[But] I don't think they'll be wearing Oscar de la Renta for a little while.'

The stylista added: 'Kids born to SJ and Matthew… are already miles ahead of the norm. They have so much opportunity. It's a lucky, fortunate child – children!'
