Madonna brings Mercy home

Madonna was finally reunited with her long-awaited adopted daughter, Mercy James, this weekend at Heathrow airport.

Although she left her home country on a private jet, Mercy and her new nanny then transferred to the first-class cabin of a commercial plane for the second leg of their journey from Johannesburg. They were then met at London Heathrow by Madonna, who had flown in from New York just hours earlier, and Mercy's new siblings, Lourdes, Rocco and David.

Sheltered from the paparazzi's prying lenses by a series of umbrellas, the four-year-old started her new life as it will no doubt continue, in the spotlight of the public's eye.

Her first appointment? A meeting at London's Kabbalah centre, where Madonna's ex-husband, Guy Ritchie, was also on hand to welcome the family's new addition.

Staff at the orphanage where Mercy has been living for the past four years said she couldn't have been more excited about her new life.

'She was running around, singing to herself and telling everyone how she would be flying for the first time,' one staff member told the Daily Mail.
