Carla Bruni is Woody Allen’s Dream Actress

Carla Bruni in London for French State Visit

American film director Woody Allen dreams of casting French First Lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in one of his films because she has the X-Factor needed for big screen, the American director has said.

According to reports in The Telegraph, Allen told journalists in Paris: ‘I'm sure she would be wonderful. She has charisma, and she performs, so she's not a stranger to an audience, and I would cast her in many different ways. I don't have a story at the moment, but you know, maybe even I'll ask her, if she's interested,’ he said.

Rumours abound that the 73-year old writer and director will visit the Elysée presidential palace during his stay to meet with President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife.

Carla Bruni has appeared on-screen before: aside from her many TV chat show appearances, in 1998 she was cast in Papparazi and in 1994 she cameoed in fashion satire Pret A Porter. But in both of these films she starred as herself – playing another character would be a new departure for Ms Bruni.

Woody Allen will begin shooting his next film in London on 13th July. Currently without a title, the movie will star Anthony Hopkins, Antonio Banderas, Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Freido Pinto and  young British actress Lucy Punch, best known for her role in American drama The Class. 'You don't know her yet but I hope that won't be the case after this film,' he told The Telegraph.
