Slug Supper Hits Channel 4
By Ellie Omahoney on Wednesday 17 June 2009
TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall has created a series of slug recipes for adventurous cooks who want to eat the garden pests.
According to today’s Telegraph, the television chef will show how to cook slugs in his River Cottage programme. Fans of the organic chef have already seen him serve dishes that include woodlice, garden snails and that well-known delicacy: human placenta.
In tonight’s programme, to be broadcast at 8pm on Channel 4, Hugh rinses slime off the slugs with hot water and vinegar then simmers them in stock before adding tomato sauce.
The 44-year-old tells viewers: 'There is surely not that much difference between a slimy slug and a tasty snail.'
In tonight's episode, Mr Fearnley-Whittingstall and his team also go foraging for a Chinese takeaway.
