Brad Pitt buys $1m painting

Brad-Pitt-and Angelina Jolie, The Oscars 2009, Celebrity News

Actor Brad Pitt caused a sensation on Tuesday when he sneaked into the Art Basel fair in Switzerland and picked up a painting worth $1million.

The international art show, which runs for five days, features the highest quality contemporary artworks by over 2500 artists.

The A-lister sent cameras into a frenzy when he pitched up at the event, attracting a throng of admirers.

The Benjamin Button star, who attempted to go incognito in aviator shades and a beige cap, zipped round the gallery, before lingering in front of a David Zwirner painting.

The 1998 painting, entitled Etappe, illustrates a vibrant scene of men in racing cars with workers nearby spraying candy-coloured hoses – and also comes with a $1million sale price.

However Mr. Pitt wasn’t fazed.  After eyeing up the nine-foot-wide work the actor conferred with major Los Angeles collectors Eli and Edythe Broad.

According to Broad, Pitt took some persuading, but finally agreed to fork out the hefty sum.

Pitt may have scored himself a bargain – in Hollywood terms – as the painting was reduced from its original asking price of $1,799,000.

Still, with the eye-watering price tag, we hope Angelina likes it!
