Simon Cowell to remake Saturday Night Fever

Simon Cowell - The Queen - Celebrity News - Marie Claire

Simon Cowell is set to nail a deal for a big-screen remake of the 70s cult movie Saturday Night Fever – and has even got Zac Efron lined up for the lead role.

The music mogul is reportedly turning film boss after weeks of negotiations with movie producer Robert Stigwood, who owns the rights to the screenplay.

Stigwood came up with the original idea – which saw John Travolta showing off his fancy footwork in the lead part – after seeing an article in a magazine about a group of teenagers going to dance competitions.

He also managed the Bee Gees and got them involved in the soundtrack.

And hip hop big-wig Timbaland is reportedly in the frame to help rework the movie's top-selling tunes.

A source told The Sun: 'Simon has been looking into buying the rights for years and opened discussions with Robert about the remake.

'The charm offensive has been in full swing and they made a breakthrough over the last couple of weeks.

'Robert was keen to get some assurances the original wouldn't be completely butchered before he agreed to the deal.

'Simon has been drawing up a list of people he wants to get involved. When that meets Robert's expectations, the contracts will be signed.'

Zac is cute but doesn't have enough screen present to carry off such a role.. I'm a huge Sat Night Fever fan and the only man that could make the movie sizzle is Gilles from dancing with the stars..
