Hot new play hits West End

Arcadia - News - Marie Claire

Theatre’s hottest young things were out in force last Thursday night to celebrate the opening of Arcadia, Tom Stoppard’s mind-tingling masterpiece about love, sex, and science in the English countryside.

Theatre greats Sir Peter Hall and Sir Tom Stoppard led the after-show party at Jewel in Covent Garden, as cast members Samantha Bond, Neil Pearson and heartthrob-in-the-making Dan Stevens celebrated a successful opening night at The Duke of York’s Theatre.

The play, which flits between 1809 and the 1990s, has long been hailed as a genius work of theatre. It received its world premiere in 1993 at the National Theatre and playwright Tom Stoppard went on to win both the Laurence Olivier Award and the New York Drama Critics’ Best New Play Award.

The new production looks set to soar to similar heights, with The Guardian claiming the play ‘adorns the West End and makes us think and feel in equal measure. You can't ask for more.’

Arcadia is playing at the Duke of York’s Theatre, St Martin’s Lane, London and is currently booking until 12 September 2009. To book, call 0870 060 6623
