Melanie Sykes has been granted a divorce from her Italian husband after their marriage fell apart over money.
Melanie, 38, married Daniel Caltagirone, 33, in January 2001 after she interviewed him for Galaxy FM radio.
But things went sour when Melanie’s daytime TV show with Des O’Connor was axed two years ago.
At the same time, Daniel, a jobbing actor, was also only being offered bit-parts in low-budget productions.
And in papers released to the public after the hearing, Sykes claimed she had been left 'distressed' by her husband's failure to understand their financial troubles.
She also cited her husband's ‘unreasonable behaviour’ as the reason for the break-up.
The pair vowed to stay friends for the sake of their two children, Roman, eight, and Valentino, four.
But when asked if her hubby’s behaviour had affected her health, she said: 'The distress I felt at the respondent's failure to appreciate our financial situation is still with me and not likely to abate until our finances are severed following divorce.'
It is believed Melanie had grown frustrated that Daniel was not contributing as much financially after her talk show with Des O'Connor was unexpectedly ditched in 2006.
The judge agreed that the marriage 'had broken down irretrievably', adding that Caltagirone's behaviour was such that Sykes could not 'reasonably be expected to live with the respondent'.
Caltagirone refused to take sole blame, saying: 'I consider that there was fault on both sides.'
One source told the Daily Mail: 'The truth is they had been growing apart for some time before they split.
‘But things were not made easier by the fact that both of their careers had stalled slightly.’
And we thought love conquered all!
