Michael Parkinson: Susan Boyle breakdown 'predictable'
By Kate Matharu on Thursday 4 June 2009
Sir Michael Parkinson has spoken out about Susan Boyle’s breakdown and admission to private clinic The Priory, saying it was ‘predictable’.
The ex-talk show host has commented on Boyle’s difficulty to cope with worldwide recognition following her meteoric rise to fame, saying being thrust into the limelight so suddenly is tough for anyone to cope with, let alone an individual like Boyle who has ‘obvious personal problems’.
Making the remarks on his My Week in Words blog this week, Parky also raised the question of whether the Scottish singer was actually any happier now than before she shot to worldwide fame.

Since the first show of Britain’s Got Talent, Boyle’s life has been turned upside down. The 48-year-old West Lothian spinster has gone from living alone with her cat to hitting the front pages of every newspaper and appearing on Oprah’s chat show.
Parkinson wrote: ‘Susan Boyle's reaction to not winning Britain's Got Talent was predictable. To go from a quiet life as a church volunteer in a small town in Scotland to international fame would be tough for anyone to cope with. But to expect someone with her obvious personal problems to take it all in is ridiculous.
‘For all the promises of fame and fortune one wonders if Susan Boyle is happier now than she was eight weeks ago?’
Now an enquiry may be launched by media regulator Ofcom over the care given to Boyle from BGT’s show producers.
Yesterday the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) warned newspaper editors not to breach the privacy of Boyle by reporting on details of her health.
The singer is currently being represented by Simon Cowell’s company SyCo, which has asked that the PCC ‘politely’ draw the media’s attention to its concerns.

Parky she is recovering and will go on to better things she is going to be making her own records with a first class publishing company. She has a talent that can still develop and grow.
Ofcourse unlike yourself she is not brilliantly capable of making a career without any notable talent except charm. Admitedly not a mean feat. She does have a charm equally as potent as your's if not as sophisticated as attested by 260,000,000 people and she can sing as well.Even you didn't ellicit that kind of world wide response that she got.
Happy? Well who really knows but she won't be looking for a job to earn a living again that's for sure.
That surely will help her towards happiness. No?
It was what she wanted and if she finds it isn't she can retire from it very well off now.
Whats to be unhappy about?

Obvious personal problems. What obvious personal problems? All of us have "personal" problems. Is he referring to the fact that she isn't glamorous enough for him. Too bad if he is. She is a wonderfully talented woman who is charming and when she has the opportunity to recoup from all commentary on her she will do fine. I wish her well.

THE RUSSIAN CONSERVATIVE LEADER SENDS HIS GRETTINGS, BARABARA STREISAND SENDS HER GREEETING. DONNY OSMOND INVITED HER TO SING.ELAINE PAIGE WANTS HER, ANDREW LLOYDS WEBER WANTS HER IN HIS MUSICAL. AND SHE PLUMETTED? SUSAN JUST NEEDS REST- AND AWAY FROM US.
