Mel Gibson confirms girlfriend’s pregnancy

Mel Gibson has opened up about his divorce on US TV – and confirmed that his new girlfriend is pregnant with their child, describing himself as 'Octo-Mel'.

Looking relaxed and tanned, Mel was in jovial spirits, and seemed happy to answer personal questions on his 21st appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

The host jumped straight in by saying there were lots of rumours to clear up, and began by asking Mel about his divorce from Robyn, his wife of 28 years.

Gibson, 53, readily took the blame for the breakdown of his marriage, saying: 'My wife and I, our marriage ended three years ago and we've been separated ever since then.'

‘These things happen. It's unfortunate, it's sad, but you know she is an admirable woman – we’ve still got kids together. We're friends.’

When Leno pressed the actor with, ‘What happened?’ Mel added: ‘Look. When it's all said and done, I did a pretty good hatchet job on my marriage myself. I'm to blame. If you're inclined to judge, put it here.’

Cheeky Leno then joked with Mel about dating a younger woman, goading: ‘What, is she 17, 18?

Mel replied that Oksana Grigorieva was almost 40, laughing, ‘Now I am going to have two women mad at me!’

Leno then said: ‘The rumour I have heard is that you guys are going to have a child?’

Gibson then confirmed: ‘This is true. We're gonna have a child.’

Piling on the gags, Leno joked: ‘So that will make 29?’

To which a quick-witted Mel responded: ‘Well, actually eight. I guess I'm Octo-Mel.’

At least he still as a sense of humour!
