Brad and Angelina wow in Cannes

Split rumours, what split rumours? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie put on a united front last night, and silenced those persistent break-up whispers, by stealing the show in Cannes.

Hollywood's favourite couple took to the red carpet for the premiere of Pitt's new movie, Inglourious Basterds, and like previous Cannes appearances, their attendance was the talk of the town.

Jolie has pulled out some of her best red carpet looks at the festival in previous years – think that canary yellow Emanuel Ungaro gown in 2007, and the flowing green Max Azria dress she wore while heavily pregnant in 2008 – and this year's appearance was no exception.

The mother-of-six looked sublime in a Versace Atelier gown, in one of the season's hottest hues – nude. But it was the detailing which really caught our attention. A thigh-high split flashed the actress's never-ending pins, while beauty wise it was all about old school Hollywood glamour, from her cascading curls to the rich ruby lips.

And though Brangelina were clearly the stars of the show, the premiere was one of the most star-studded the festival has seen to date.

Pitt's co-star Diane Kruger was ethereal in a white backless Marchesa gown, with floral motifs and a sweeping train. Understated, yet oh-so-elegant, the actress completed her look with a chic side-swept bun.

Dita Von Teese, meanwhile, added to the Cannes couture count, in a monochrome Christian Dior spring '09 dress. The full-skirted design was simply divine.

I just can't take this Brangelina adolation any longer, honestly. They just look fake! And Pitt looks old on this picutre. And unhappy (well, Angie too isn't really happiness incarnated, is she?). Pitt and Anniston were so much nicer to look at - they were a real and natural couple!

You can literally see on this picture how much Pitt would like to get out of this relationship, had he not -damn it - a whole tribe of kids together with this woman. Well, Brad, you should have thought about it BEFORE. Now you're trapped...my goodness how would the press ravage you would you leave the mother of your 6 children.... and don't forget all the fundamentalist Christian Americans who would boycott your films... and I'm pretty certain should you ever divorce Angie, she'll make sure you won't see any of your kids not even from far...

Better hang in there and stick it out! We suffer with you!

I think they look fantastic- she looks so stunning, it's breathtaking! And a really unusual look.

In reply to Anna, how can you judge their lives like that?! You only know what is portrayed in the press, and no offence but your clearly jealous, and need to stop acting like you understand Brad Pitt's life.

To me they look like a happy strong couple, and certainly look fabulous for Cannes!

She is definitely the type to make sure he doesn't see the kids if they split up.

Brad has been looking real old ever since he split from Anniston and got together with Jolie.

OMG I think she looks awful! Really washed out and blah. I think the dress is the wrong colour on her and the lipstick I think just makes her skin look even more wishy-washy. I abmit on her day she can look fantastic but think this is one of the worst pics I have seen of her. Everyone else seems to disagree with me so I could be very wrong, but think she looks like a ghost.
