Amy Winehouse’s father, Mitch, is on the brink of abandoning his daughter after disclosing that the singer’s drug habit has been replaced by an alcohol addiction.

In a new TV documentary the frustrated cab driver has admitted that he cannot continue to watch his daughter battle another addiction, saying fate will decide Amy’s future now.

'After she almost died twice from drug related problems, to see her walking, smiling - she has progressed so much,' he divulges in the new documentary.

'But now, if it's alcohol instead of hard drugs - I don't think I can go through that again.'

The troubled soul singer is back in the Caribbean where she has spent much of this year attempting to recover from her deep-seated drug dependence.

However, last weekend Amy gave an eye-opening on-stage display before locals, which disintegrated quickly, seeing the singer booed off.

Mitch Winehouse says he has finally reached the end of his tether and believes there is nothing more he can do to save his daughter.

I've decided to distance myself, and whatever happens, happens. It's her life,' he said. 'It's her career. It's her decision.'

Speaking to documentary-maker Daphne Barak, who is in the Caribbean island of St Lucia, tracking Amy’s progress – or lack of  - Mitch admitted: 'She said to me, "Dad thank you for pulling me out of drugs." I said to her, "But you are the one who decided to pull out. You can do it again and stop drinking."'

Amy has been pictured on a number of occasions in the holiday resort where she has been holed up, crawling along hotel floors and begging guests to give her booze.
