Chris Brown's lawyers seek case dismissal over Rihanna photos

Rihanna, Marie Claire News

Chris Brown's lawyers are hoping to get his assault charges thrown out of court, by accusing the Los Angeles Police Department of misconduct.

Attorneys acting on the singer's behalf are claiming that photographs of Rihanna, which showed the R'n'B star's face badly beaten, should never have been leaked onto the internet, and want the LAPD held to account.

'The purpose of the leak was necessarily for profit and to vilify Mr Brown and poison the potential jury pool,' lawyer Mark Geragos wrote in a motion, which was filed in the States on Wednesday.

He is demanding police files, including personnel and investigative records, be handed over to him, so he can look for evidence of misconduct – something that could be used as grounds to have the case dismissed.

Chris Brown pleaded not guilty to charges of GBH and making criminal threats when questioned in court last month. The next hearing is scheduled for 28 May.
